Toshiba 37XV553DB sudden no video but sound ok

Good evening all.

Purchased from new 5 years ago.

Never had a problem until suddenly while active, screen turned black.

Usually get a grey image when screen is trying to produce black colour but this is totally black, as if off.

Power LED turns green as normal as does sound. Remote IR is responsive but no screen action.

I tried shining a light from the side but to be honest I don't think any light can get through so I cannot confirm if there is a faint image.

Called toshiba technical support who told me screen malfunction and not economical to repair and tried to sell me another model.

Contacted a spares website who said the first port of call would be the inverter. I've taken pictures and attached as requested and would be very grateful for any assistance and support.

There are two inverter boards, right?
It looks like the bottom seal of the caps are popping out.
You need to check the fuses and see if you do have 24VDC feeding the inverter boards or not.

Thanks for the fast response.

I'm not sure if there are two boards; I will have to check under the other side.

I can confirm that while shining the light directly on the screen I DO get a faint image.

So now I have to go buy a multimeter to follow your instructions; are either of these ok or do I need something more high tech?

I am willing to learn and I do have patience so please forgive me if I ask for extra detail.

When I am checking the fuses, what am I looking for and how do I do it?
Also, how do I check the voltage please? Where do I put the prongs?

OK, check with Shopjimmy, it looks liek your TV may use only on Inverter board, but we will know when we see the whole back side of the TV.

If you look at the picture of the inverter board from Shopjimmy, you can easily see that the rubber seals are in the right position compared to what yours look like.

Does the letter on the rectangular pad matter? Mine states J butr a few I've seen with the same part number state K.

Hi. I wanted to inform you that I had purchased a spare from CHS interactive which has the same product number but a different barcode (I couldn't find a seller that had the same barcode) and the replacement worked.
