Samsung UN32EH4003FXZA - tries to start - problem found!

    Hi,

I was just working on a Samsung UN32EH4003FXZA. This is an LED backlit set.
The symptom was the tv would try to turn on, the backlight would flash briefly and the cycle would repeat.
The power supply board number is BN44-00554B
I was quite surprised to find that the 47 mf 160 volt capacitor at location CM867 was bulged. I thought that this was a problem a while ago with Samsung sets but was resolved.
The capacitor measured way under the rated capacitance when tested out of circuit.
The capacitor that failed was a Samwha WL series.
Can't say that this will be a common problem or not.
Hope it helps someone out there.

They still did not learn the lesson from the past.

      Hello everyone,

Purchased this tv pretty cheap because it would not turn on. I found a video on youtube and its exactly the problem I am having. As soon as I disconnect the cable specified in the video, the backlight is on, if I connect that cable, the backlight does not turn on.

Gonna find out the mainboard online to order it. Will come back with an answer later.

Just wanted to share my info in case it happens to someone else.

      Thanks

All my caps look fine. Is there a way to test them without removing them from the board? I have searched the boards.....thanks.

          Hello ehboy,

Did you take a look at the youtube video I posted?

You can test the capacitors using a in-Circuit capacitor tester like these:
          In-Circuit Capacitor Tester 1

          or this:
          In-Circuit Capacitor Tester 2

I purchased the $36.99 when I had some eBay bucks , so got it for less, and has done a good job for me. Now, testing a capacitor with that tester does not mean that you are going to get the correct reading. If the capacitor is in parallel with another, you are still going to get a reading on the "bad one", but the reading could be from the other capacitor. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

The best thing to do is remove it, and test it outside the circuit. I got myself a Supco MFD10 Digital Capacitor tester from Zoro Tools. The one at Zoro is different than the one I received. It is not MADE IN USA anymore, it is MADE IN CHINA now, but it does the job. The one I received looks like this: Supco MFD10.

I've had readings that are "good" using the in-circuit cap tester, but when I remove it and use the supco mfd10 digital tester, the capacitor reading is nowhere near to what its microfarad shows on it.

          Hope this helps

Never can trust testing the cap in circuits due to another cap may be in parallel or other components in parallel, best is to test them off the board.

Re: Samsung UN32EH4003FXZA - tries to start - problem found!

              Hi,

I just fixed another set of the same model number.
This tv would initially turn on for perhaps a minute but the backlight would blink or dim slightly. After the initial turn on, the tv exhibited the same symptom as my first set. It would shut down and then try to restart - over and over again.
I looked at CM867 - the 47 mf 160 volt Samwha WL that was bulged in the initial set. No visible signs of failure - no bulging at the top.
I pulled it and checked the value - very, very low capacitance reading.
A new cap fixed all the issues!
Like Bud M. said - you really need to pull them and check them to be sure.
              Hope it helps someone else.

              Mike

Wow, I did not see that cap blown, it is ever so slightly but sure enough it was blown. I replaced it with a 47uf 200v, obviously 160v is not strong enough. I thought at first it was the LEDs so I disassembled the screen and then I decided to read Badcaps and found this.

But I have 4 of these TVs and only 1 has this power board, the other 3 power boards do not have the CM867, they are a different board design all together. Also some of these TVs have 4 strait LED strips and the other have 2 angled LED strips. 2 of my TVs have bad screens so I was only able to fix 2 of the 4.
