We had a wicked lightening storm today and when I got home from work, my tv was broken. I had only the power cord and and HDMI cord from my reciever plugged in. my xbox and cable box go into my my reviever. I have everything plugged into a surge bar.
I can turn the tv on and it will illuminate in a dark room without a picture (its not distorded or blurry - its absent) and no sound.
When I turn the tv on with the remote the relays click and the red light goes solid (no flickering or flashing) The tv though wont respond to turning off, it will be delayed by about half a minute and turns off on its own.
I inspected the boards and can not see any physical damage to the naked eye, no bulging melting or darkening. I did notice however thought that the fans do not turn on (not sure if they kick on at a certain temp or not)
I am by no means knowledgable in this department, but I can read a diagrama and follow directions if they are clear.
I called someone that I kind of know and they said the y and z board (i think) but all I heard was 400-500 dollars and thought I would try this method of self soothing.
Thanks
