Bulb gone in LCD panel: What is the next step?

    Hi guys,

Just looking for a few general opinions here. A lot of the time I come across monitors and TVs where I know that the inverter is shutting down because of a bad bulb in the LCD Panel.

What do you normally do in that position that you know the LCD panel has a bad bulb? Do you:
    a) Try and track down a new bulb, and replace the bad one in the panel.
    or
    b) Consider the TV as a write off.

Is it worth the hassle getting involved in replacing them?

    thanks,
    J

I would try to replace it. It really depends on what you want. If you like working on things then it's fun for you and you always learn something.

I always keep tubes when I scrap panels for this reason. It is sods law though that when I get a panel that needs one I don't have the right size. They seem to be expensive to buy as well.

I would certainly not write the panel off as the matrix is fine so it's a waste. Some displays are easy to dismantle to get to the tubes so can be replaced without much effort, you just need to be careful handling the matrix and keeping everything dust free on assembly. In my experience laptops are the most taxing.

I was watching a few videos of a guy who kept referring to them as bulbs... But I suppose tubes would be more correct given that they are not bulbous in shape..

TOSHIBA DLP 52HM95 How to reset timer module on bulb
            by repair-it
I replaced the bulb only on my Toshiba DLP The bulb is a TB-25. This is the first time I've done a bulb only replacement. Supposedly there is a timer module that needs to be re-calibrated or reset. I don't know where the module is located. I see some vendors selling the bulb with the housing stating module included which leads me to think the module is located inside the enclosure the bulb mounts in, but I didn't see it. Maybe it's inside the plug attached to the bulb?

Anyway - I am seeking information on how to reset this so called module so that the lamp will operate. Apparently...

LG 49UJ6500 LCD panel lighter band that goes away
            by howardc64
49UJ6500 LCD panel has a lighter band on top when first powered on. Goes away (or gets much fainter) after TV on for a few min. After powered off for awhile and power back on, same band appears. If powered on immediately after powering off, no or much fainter band. Running the latest firmware.

Disassembled the TV and lifted the LCD panel during testing. Band is on the LCD panel (can see the band on the panel as I lift it slightly) Backlight is perfectly even at the top edge. Double checked LCD panel alignment in the frame and is perfect but since band moved with the panel, its on...

SAMSUNG UN50TU8000F rebooting, backlight ok. No 12v to panel boards.
            by triplefour
TV flashes backlight then reboots over and over. no image. Client said it used to have image for a bit before rebooting. Got worse over time.

            tcon is built into mainboard.
Only one cable goes to panel boards.
there is a cable from one panel board to the other that links them.
cost cutting measure that results in us having harder time to diagnose.
removing the link to the second panel board allows TV to stay on with stable backlight but no image.
used cut off tape method to mask 1 maybe 2 pins on the side of the cable that goes to that second panel board....

            QN55Q60R Service Menu Panel Help
            by Storyteller12
I had a the above tv qn55q60r that had a bad panel but everything else good. I had another panel here from un55nu6900 with bad leds and melted diffusers.

I put the nu6900 panel in and powered it up and it does work but there are lines vertical lines.

I was trying to change the panel type in the service menu but don’t see my exact panel. Anyway to fix this or someone have similar experience.

the clear picture is the panel type from the service menus on the nu6900. The other 1 is the panel type that was set for the q60r with the bad panel....

            LUMIMAN Smart Bulb IC ID?
            by ezenia
            Hi,

I have a LUMIMAN Smart Bulb that suddenly stopped lighting one day. The bulb is still detected in the app, but won't light. I've probed around and nothing seems to look off with any of the diodes, caps or resistors. The Bluetooth/Wi-Fi module seems to be working as it's still detected in the app. I even tried deleting and re-pairing the bulb (it didn't light, but I was still able to follow the pairing instructions), it re-paired fine, but still no light.

In diode mode, the LEDs all light up when probed so I'm guessing this means the LEDs themselves are OK. I was expecting...
