Toshiba REGZA TV 42WLT68 - colors problem

Hi all,

Please see attached pics.
I'm trying to fix this set but don't know which part is responsible for displaying the correct colors.
Can you please guide me where to look.
Tried the A/V , Scart , VGA inputs so far - they all show the same distorted colors.
Will try HDMI tomorrow.
Also, could not locate the schematics anywhere, would appreciate if you can post it.

You need to find the TCON Board - its usually buried.
If you use the search above there is another thread for this set which has mention of
a schematic that might help

Replaced AS15-F Gamma IC on T-CON board (PN: T420XW01 / 06A39-1A) and now colors are back to life.

Hi Tom - there seems a lot of these cropping up these days do we know what might
be sending them off or is it just faulty chip design. Would fitting a heatsink before it went
be any help?

They do not run hot so I doubt a heatsink wil help. I think the failure is electrical overstress, or a design flaw, and I'm not very confident there is a guaranteed way to stop it from happening.

Where did you find a AS15F so fast? yesterday posted with the question,today it's fixed!

lol martino, indeed this was a very fast repair.
I went to 5 electronic parts stores and to my luck the 5th one had it.
The IC was a bit pricy (~10$) as expected, compared to numerous of these super cheap on ebay from China.
The store rep claimed they had once bought some faulty/counterfeit stock of these, I do not know if this is true though...
I just wanted to repair my coworker's set (as he intended to give it to the scrap guys).
The teardown was tricky as the tcon is well buried inside.
Used an Hakko hot air station for 5sec to lift the IC, 5min more to solder the new IC (used Hakko FX951).
No one messes with you after they see how you solder and repair stuff.
Man the cheers I got from work mates...

The only place in my neck of the woods that have electronic parts won't sell me anything,cause they know I fix tv's and they are pissed at me for that(cause they fix tv's too),gotta love it...
