Help repairing panasonic vertical line fault

Hi guys, can someone please help? I have a panasonic TH-42PX60B that has developed this fault it's a black/white band at the left hand side of the screen. After reading toms very detailed post I decided that the buffer or connection was faulty, I cleaned the ribbon connector to no avail. I decided to replace the buffer and have just finished installing it. I have the exact same problem with the new buffer, when I power the tv up with the ribbon disconnected the vertical line has colour to it like this this is sensitive to movement of the tv and if I tap the top gently the colour will go and a complete white band appears. With the ribbon replaced the sensitivity completely disappears.
Is this repairable or is it time to chuck the towel in a buy a new tv?

Vertical issues that are stationary like this with changing picture content are usually the COF chips or the panel itself on Pans Ive found.

Scrapped more pans with that fault than anything else....
