    Toshiba LCD 40RV525R HDMI Issue

As some of you know; I successfully fixed a Panasonic plasma TV recently. I let my son talk me into trading it for his Toshiba. We needed a new TV for the bedroom as our old Toshiba recently has developed dead pixels that have joined together into a pea size blob. The plasma was too heavy for the wall hanger, anyways.

So, his TV looks great and plays fine. However, since converting over to DirecTV; the remote doesn't turn the TV on and off unless the slider is in the TV position. Also, the TV must be on first with the blue blocked "No Signal" showing or it doesn't see any video input on the HDMI when the box is turned on. It never did it with a Comcast or Dish box.

Anybody ever experience something like that? Is it something that could be fixed in the service menu?

    Update.

Tried various configurations of the Regza feature with the DirecTV box HDMI Control ON and OFF. Made no difference.

I suspect this is a software issue. I know there is a newer firmware version, but it's not on the Toshiba US site. It can only be found on the Canada site. I wouldn't what to update it with incompatible firmware and muck it up worse.

May just have to live with it.

Problem solved. Not to my liking. Found this on satelliteguys.com:

There are certain toshiba regza models that are not compatible with any of the directv white remotes. Reason is the extra signal added to the commands coming from the white directv remotes, this extra signal makes the toshiba commands unrecognizable to the regza models. This signal CAN"T be turned off, and any new white directv remote will have this problem too.

If you were to do a code search you would come up with many working codes, but once the code is locked in the extra signal returns and it won't control the toshiba anymore. The white remote haven't changed, they always had this extra signal, what did change was the toshiba tv's became extra sensitive to the commands it accepts.
