    Samsung LA37A550P1R/LXL Problem: Solarized colors

I've a 37" Samsung LA37A550P1R that suddenly started showing weird colors(gamma problem?) when I turned it on the other day.
I called the Samsung Service center and their guy merely checked a few voltages on the main board, and so much as peeked at the TCon board before concluding that I'd have to get the entire LCD panel replaced!

My problem seems very similar to this https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=33032

How can I confirm that its the Tcon board and not the panel or the connectors?

I'll try to get it open and post pictures of the main board and the Tcon board as soon as I can. Please help me diagnose the problem.

AS-15 Gamma chip, on the T-con you will see several exposed copper pads marked near the outputs for example.

You will take voltage readings from these pads in order and post them here, Budm/Tom66have a spreadsheed you can put in your voltages and you will be able to see if they are right on or low.

Some Sammy panels have the T-con built into the screen that cannot be fixed or at least not very easily.

I am not familiar with your model but I just had a t-con repaired and replaced the AS-15F gamma chip that caused a Solorized picture on a 37" Samsung.

    Good luck!

It probably uses the same T-CON board as this one:

Re: Samsung LA37A550P1R/LXL Problem: Solarized colors

I did just remove the back cover and the metal cover over the TCON board. I'm a newbie to Electronics let alone LCD TVs and its quite a late hour so I didn't remove the board itself.
I only noted the TCON board number, it's the same one as the one in the link above- T370HW02 V402 37T04-C02.
I even found it on eBay here http://www.ebay.com/itm/new-original...-/231202732929.

I don't think I'm skilled enough to actually solder an IC and I dont know anybody who is... Neither do I have a multi-meter at the moment...

I'll try to test for the defective AS-15 with the handy spreadsheet by TOM66 and try to decide on whether to change the TCON board but meanwhile, I seem to have another problem that I hadn't noticed before the Samsung Technician opened the set up. There seems to be some backlight leakage in a patch near the center of the screen. I've attached a picture that I took in the dark. Can this be because of the TCON board too or does it point to a failed panel? I really hope its not the panel :S

So right now you do not get any more pictures on the screen?

no, no, I'm sorry for the incomplete information. I took that shot with no input connected so as to show the problem with the backlight leak. The picture is the same as before- solarized as in the photos in the first post. The backlight leakage is something additional that I had never noticed before. It COULD always have been there, but I doubt it. I guess that shouldn't be my biggest concern right now, unless its related to the problem at hand.

Backlight bleed is pretty common on LCD Panels, that looks normal to me and plus you are not at your viewing angle when you took that picture.

okay, alright thanks. I'll try to get the readings for the AS-15 tomorrow. Either way, trying out the replacement of the TCON board for $58 is a much better idea than spending $340 to replace the entire LCD panel.

Okay, so I'm going to buy a replacement TCON board and hope for the best.
Just a question before I go ahead:
The original board in my TV is a T370HW02 V402 37T04-C02.
I've found a number of listings on eBay for the following:

                  T420HW02 V0 42T04-C04
                  T370HW02 V7 37T04-C07

All of these claim that they are a perfect substitute for my board. I've found quite a few listings for T420HW02 V0 42T04-C04 that are from reputed sellers and at a good price. Can I go ahead and get that board? Will it be compatible? The T42 as compared to the T37 seems to suggest that its meant for a 42 inch, while I have a 37 inch.

Please reply soon as I intend to make the purchase as soon as possible.

                  Thank you in advance

Either board is likely to be compatible but you must make sure it has the same connectors on both sides of the board.

Haunted....My TV Westinghouse SK-32H590D has the same problem...I thought it might be the T-CON board or the Backlight Inverter...it would be nice to know what others think. FLPIII
