In a dark room, do you get a slight glow from the display panel? Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: please help me troubleshoot a panasonic plasma
Also check for green LED lit on the Sc and SS boards.
photos of the layout of the Tv as it is.
Is it same on TV and AV, No OSD?
Any sound? can an antenna be connected to see or av source and see if sound.
maybe hook up another TV/monitor to the AV out and see if you can get video out of that but OSD and menus will not show so you'll need a TV channel or Av source for the TV.Comment

The green led lights are lit up on the ss and sc board. And the red light is lit on the main boardComment

The presence of glow indicates a likely main board fault - tw2005 may have some additional information - it might be possible to get full white pattern by removing power to main CPU? As on the PZ70/PZ80s.Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: please help me troubleshoot a panasonic plasma
Older generation and some newer generation plasmas have a very visible dark glow.

Yeah if its main board I looked them up there like 150. And this tv don't have a stand so its not worth me buying a new main board and stand. I won't make profit. So ill just part it outComment

Re: please help me troubleshoot a panasonic plasma
It could be Main or SC. If you're into component repair you could take a gamble and try replacing the 20 pin octal buffer ICs but at which end is the question.
Whilst working on a SC, it was a battle the whole way but I ended up a TV which reacted exactly as you described, on,running, etc, faint glow, sound because the TV was hooked up and tuned in.
So swapped it out and ended up with a 7 blink but getting a change meant i had the right chip, so replacing it again with a scavanged part off a board it then came good. post 101 on, https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...t=26322&page=6
IC16561(IC561) was the culprit for me, but I reckon could also be on a similar IC on the A where it leaves the board at A20.
C0JBAU000088, C0JBAU000043 are the same and Panasonic numbers, marked C541 (SC,SS & C boards have them)Unfortunately the size is fairly unique and direct from Panasonic at about $2-3 each.
On the A board, IC9400,IC9401,IC9402 C0JBAZ002692 $2-3 ea could be suspects too. they are the next size up should be obtainable as VHCT541A but available in several sizes which you'd have to check.
I was using my TV as a test mule so I knew the A was good, something you don't but you could hook it up and see if any video was coming from AVout by either attaching the antenna assuming it's tuned in. If you got AV out I'd feel comfortable there was hope salvaging it.
With mine i proved a bad octal buffer IC could incorrectly trigger a SOS7 and also have the Tv run fine with no display because the data lines go through those too.
I replaced it and it came good.
depends if you want to gamble and persevere or not with it but it will be hard to sell either the A or SC for parts as these 2 are would be on the suspect list.
Or, park it until another one or similar model came along like
TC-P50S2,TC-P50U2,TX-P50S20B,TX-P50U20B
Not every TV is a winner, sometimes the learning experience is worth something and breaking even or keeping it for youself is also very satisfying.
There is a guy on this forum who has been in search of a TNPA5105AB for a 50S2 for ages so he may be a candidate for taking a punt on your SC as is.Last edited by tw2005; 03-31-2014, 03:16 AM.Comment

Yep, that's what i was hoping/suspecting. The only info i can share is of a particular situation I created rebuilding a SC board.

You are very smart so how can I check these parts on a meter on a board?Comment

Re: please help me troubleshoot a panasonic plasma
but the beauty of perseverance, sometimes you get a nice surprise and 2 things were discovered. that one IC caused both those conditions.
So whilst you may have a different cause at least it's confirmed that it could be as simple as replacing those or the ones on the A board.
An oscilloscope though would be the way togo for tracing the signals to see what's missing but I've never gone to that level and at home I have very little other than a Fluke and soldering gear.
Soldering those smaller ICs though, very challenging, had to use a magnifier and plenty of flux to get it done. very close pitch on thos legs.Comment

Re: please help me troubleshoot a panasonic plasma
I have the same issue with my TC-P50S2.. No sound though, so I believe it is the A board.. I'd love to fix this but I bought the set for $20 and looking to profit. So I'll probably sit on it until I come across one that need a SC board or broken screen... I have a TC-P50G25 that has the same buffer boards but not the A board..anyone out there need any parts and want to trade?Comment

by jm1234Hi,
anyone able to provide the service manual for old plasma Panasonic TX-P42ST50E?
It turns off almost immediately (0~5 seconds after pressing the on/off button) and starts flashing the red diode 6 times.
I disconnected the left-hand side board (SC?, both the ribbon cable and the power cable to it) and also another ribbon going to bottom left board. Then the led signal is 8 flashes. According to service guide to another Panasonic plasma it would mean the left-hand side board is faulty. But I'm not sure it 100% applies to my model.
I checked that board for any obvious faults... -
by stecosHi everyone!
I happened several times, in the search for help from the web, to consult this very interesting forum.
So I decided to sign up and I intend to participate actively by making available my knowledge and experience on the subject, I'm a new user but at the same time I'm old in the sense that I have 4 decades of experience in repairing and designing electronics but above all I'm a great passionate about the subject.
Having said that I come to the gist of my post on the forum as the title suggests.

by clooI recently got my hands on a 60" Panasonic P60ZT60 plasma tv (european model) that has some strange issues along with an 8 blink code.
It know this tv is getting old but it was once considered one of the best plasmas ever made, and i think it is still holds on to that even by todays standards.
So, long story short. When i first got the tv it had a very bright washed out picture with very raised blacks in all picture modes and i couldn't find the cause in the picture setting menus.
After doing a factory reset this problem was gone and the picture was back to...01-06-2025, 06:02 AM -
by AlicatHello,
Stopped by this site trying to fix my parents Panasonic Plasma TV.
Model number is TH-50PZ85U
Power comes on and the red power light stays on solid.
Did a few checks like hold the power button on for 60 seconds, hold the - Volume while holding the menu button, no luck, still@ blank grey screen as the screen lights up very vague.
I also hear a few clicks.
I also think my parents said there was a thunderstorm and the TV failed after that.
Section 6 in the service manual talks about power and no screen,...10-30-2024, 10:09 AM -
by LintesirMy parents' Panasonic P42S30 died recently, and they asked me to have a look at it. I was able to identify the SN-board as the culprit, as it was shorted. After removing Q401, Q402, Q421 and Q422 the short was gone, so I replaced these components and that got the TV working again. However, when testing the tv a bit, I noticed quite bad pinkish sparkles on some colors. For instance the greyish bar on this forum seems to trigger it quite badly. I made a fullscreen test picture with only that color, with the below result.
There is about a 5cm high region at the top without any sparkles,... - Loading...
