I think my projector is sead.

Well today I found in the trash an Infocus LP425 projector with almost all it's cables.
I dragged it home and tested it out. The bulb was fine but after the bulb got bright enough to cause something to project I saw the problem.
The screen was white with color distortion on the lower right side and halfway across the left side of the screen was a sea of blacl specks (dead pixels).
What are the chances that either this is an easy fix or that I need to start searching again?

well I know nothing about them apart from expensive in all respects

From what I understand, the chances of anybody doing component level repair is slim....the equivalent of valve jockey repairs these days...replace pcb charge $$$$

So you maybe lucky and catch some problem no one was prepared to go looking for

But I'll have to leave it open for those that are in the know here

I slapped the projector a few times and I got a picture.
It looks like a cold joint.

if you still have the mess on the screen try blowing it out.
had one a while back that looked like that.it was infested with roaches.
the black specks can also be from a past bulb explosion.

yeah thats sort of what I mean you could be lucky no ones even bothered to try and fix it
After they got a quote most likely $$$$$$
binned it and when and bough a new one for a 3rd the price or less

hope for you its a simple fix....make it a great score for nixs

That all vanishes when I smack it hard enough to get the video to come back.
Once the video does return it's crystal clear with no visible dead pixels.

cold solder joints.
they may be hard to spot and rework without a good magnifier and iron.
