    Philips 42pf9966 Y-sustain

    Hey guys,

Recently acquired a 42pf9966 for free not working, teardown and research showed an upper Y buffer with 4 out of 6 chips literally blown out. Lower board is physically ok looking. I ordered both, will be here tomorrow.

My concern is, should I replace the sustain main board as well? I'm afraid if I plug these in, and the y main is faulty, I will blow up brand new buffer boards. Is this a valid concern? Or will a short power-on be ok just to test it?

Or is there a better way to test my Y main board?

    Thanks,
    Dan

Well I just installed my newly arrived buffer boards. Gonna reassemble the tv after i run a few errands. Since it seems the people who know about this stuff are not available at the moment, I guess i am just gonna power it on and hope for the best....

      Update:

Installed the buffers, screen shows more lines and stuff than before, but still not working.

I uploaded 2 pictures, not sure if it worked

Edit: the screen shows this when I attempt to control the menu. Otherwise, it doesn't show anything. But I don't have a source hooked up either.

It definitely looks like the buffer boards are no good, these are new ones? Did the seller test them?
Need picture of Y-main to confirm diagnosis by checking Vsch.
Also check all cables between buffer and Y-main, and Y-main and logic board fully connected.

Yes, new buffer boards, bought from shopjimmy.com. they came with an inspection sheet saying they were tested and all that. Attached is a picture of the Y-Sus in my TV. Not mine, just an ebay picture. (Which I had to Screenshot because it was a weird format...) I have to run out for a while and will disassemble my TV again later, and provide a pic of my actual boards.

I will also check those voltages you told me to. I'll figure out how to hook everything up with it disassembled. I've been inside a lot of electronic devices in my 30 years, but this one is, by far, the most complicated yet,,,

I'm afraid I can't see any useful detail in that image, is there no way you can get a clear photo of your board?

I'll try later. Sorry, but I have to run out for a few hours. When I get home, I'll pull my board and try to get a good shot of it. I guess we'll resume tomorrow, I won't be home til 9-10, which for you is, 1-2 am, and I'm sure you won't still be up then, haha, I know I won't be. Thanks for your help so far. I'd *really* like to retire my 36" RCA CRT in the worst way lol

                Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

Is it possible to upgrade from a Vestel 17MB97 main board to a 17MB110 Main board?
                by cheeky2
I suppose the real question is whether the existing pinouts from ether a 17IPS71 psu are cross compatible with a 17IPS12 psu? If they are then the exchange of the main boards should have no issues providing the screen is compatible with both main boards. Obviously you can change the screen configurations easily enough (providing you have the correct files) for the main board. Why may you ask would I do this? Well a lot of the smart features are no longer working on a Hitachi 48HBT62U main board I wish to give it a new lease of life!
Obviously the same LVDS connector for the screen connection...

Hi and thanks in advance for any input you might provide!
I have a Sceptre U550CV-UMRD8POTV83BB 4K LED (this is a dumb tv) that I bought new in August 2021, so It's just completed 3 years.
Main power board model: TP.MS3683.PC821 T-Con board: N4TP546UHDPU2L_BO

Last Sunday I was watching a dvd and fell asleep for about half hour, when I awoke the tv screen was black and couldn't get the dvd menu to show, so I changed the input to antenna and had sound but no picture, turned it off. I then got online and found this great site! ....read many troubleshooting tips and this...

I wondering if there are some usual faults regarding the PS_ON signal from main board to PSU board?
                Where do i start looking?

I have standby light and the PSU is working if i connect 3.3V to the PS_ON pin on the psu board....

Help Needed: Samsung UE55MU8000 Dead - Possible Main Board Issue
                by Asraf Atb
                Hi everyone,

Im looking for some advice regarding my Samsung UE55MU8000 TV with main board model BN94-11606C. The TV suddenly stopped turning on and now shows no signs of life at all not even the standby light at the bottom.

Initially, I suspected an issue with the PSU, so I took it to a repair center. They tested it and confirmed that the PSU works perfectly, even on other TVs. Based on that, I started investigating the main board.

I disconnected the main board from the PSU, and the backlight turned on, which seems to confirm the main board is the issue....
