LG 47G2 Has Picture but no Sound

    Hello,

Can anyone help me diagnose what's the issue with this TV. It has no sound at all but picture works. Audio from an external source via HDMI input also does not work. The board is EAX64547906. I am trying to repair the board vs replacing it... I am new to repairing TV boards and still learning. if anyone has experience with this, any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

See if you get sound from the 3.5 audio/headphone jack or the optical output if you have an optical cable and device.

Navigate to the Audio/Sound menu.Choose Sound Out, then select TV Speakers.

The TV has sound at first....its a bit staticy and then completely cuts out. Not consistent. Lasts about 30 seconds. I will test the audio out and get back to you. Thanks. Yes I did a master reset on everything during software troubleshooting.

Probably won't work but try pressing mute button 3 times, see if a screen pops up.

Go ahead and check the speakers with multimeter set to ohms meter lead on each terminal of speaker, tv unplugged from power. They should both read about the same.

Both speakers read 7.8. But before I did that I did test the speakers with external audio source and they work and do not have static noise.

Optical audio works with external speaker source.

              Any thoughts?

I did do the 3x mute button reset several times and checked audio output to TV speakers as well. Same problem. Audio works. Then cuts out after a few seconds. I can repair the board just not sure what chip... don't see any shorts on any capacitors.

To be clear, it does the same thing, comes on static then cuts out, and it happens both on hdmi and when you have an antenna hooked up to the tuner, correct?

Check your sound settings, try setting it to just internal speakers, turn off hdmi arc or any others.

The IC5200 codec and the IC5400 audio power amplifier and their wiring (MUTE control...) are responsible for your sound.

Suppose you can check the audio voltage, check it where the speaker wire connectors hook up at mainboard, should probably see 5 or 6 volts on it.

Seems most sound problems were cleared up with a factory reset or firmware update. Can try a simple reset, unplug tv, hold power button on tv down for 30 seconds, wait 2 minutes re-plug and try tv.

Thank you all. I did try a factory reset as well and the simple reset and it did not resolve the issue. The solution might be to just use the optical audio with a cheap soundbar. nomoresonys thank you for all the help!! also lotas this is very helpful. thank you thank you.

If the 3.5 audio earphone/headphone jack is working you can also use pc speakers.

Sometimes the 3.5 jack can get dirtied up or oxidated, plugging and unplugging the 3.5 connector 5 or 10 times can sometimes clear up audio problems.
