Philips TV 47pfl5603d/27 - Backlight Issues on Certain Sources

Good morning, all! I have a headscratcher here and my Google-fu is failing to find any good pointers.

I have a Philips 47pfl5603d/27 which we've had for several years now. It's nothing special but it worked well especially with gaming via HDMI. Lately though it's been trying to drive us crazy - the backlight will randomly shut off when using a non-HDMI source!

Our cable (standard-def) is plugged in via coax and our DVD player is in through component. I have a PS3 and PS4, both on HDMI. When using a NON-HDMI source, the backlight will often shut off randomly. Cycling power will sometimes fix it but not always. While on HDMI, it very rarely loses backlight AND if it does, cycling power restores it.

So, my initial theory of bad inverters appears to be shot. I don't think this set has an auto-backlight off feature, and I don't know why it would be triggered while in active use anyways. My amateur DSP mind is thinking it may be a signal strength issue causing the set to think it's not in use?

At this point, I'm prepared to crack it open and put a multimeter to it, but if there's something that can be done prior to that, since it may be going on a one-way trip, I'd like to make a go of tests and fixes that don't involve disassembly.

I just remembered I have a PS2 I can try using both composite and component hookups - maybe that will be telling. I can also move the DVD player inputs from the back panel to the side A/V jacks.

Does anyone here have any thoughts on what else I should be testing for? And if I need to open it, what area I should focus on inside?

    Thank you all!
