Samsung PS43D490 clicking when powered on no display

Samsung PS43D490 clicking when powered on no display

Standby light will flash once as it trys to power up and it clicks from PS

    Then it continues like that

I have removed the back and nothing is burnt out that i can see

If i remove the X-main from the Y-main the set then has the standby flash 5 times then off but no display or start up sound, the T con LED is then on for about 5 seconds then goes off for about 2 seconds and keeps going

I know there is problems with both y and x mains on these but i was hoping i could narrow it down to 1 if possible

Usually if the Y-main is bad, there's a high chance it will take out the X-main as well. If it was just the X-main that was bad you could usually get away with replacing that one.

The boards are relatively cheap, but the mosfets on the heatsinks for each board are usually the ones to blow and cause the clicking problem.

thanks Glitcher - when i disconnect the x-main there is no clicking does that mean my y main is good ?

Is there any way i can check, i dont want to buy an x-main then blow it from a bad y-main

Re: Samsung PS43D490 clicking when powered on no display

You need a scope to verify. You can look at control board LED. It should blink 5 sec off 2 sec on with fault detect (X-main missing will cause this.)

          Hi Tom66 thanks for replying

i haven't got a scope, how much are they?

So i have no way of telling if its either or that's broken, so i guess i have to buy both or can i try an x-main then buy a y-main if needed ?

A very basic analog scope which will do some types of repairs can be had for under £50. It will come in handy for plasma and LCD repairs.

You should check Freecycle, gumtree, etc. eBay they go for high prices, I sold my old one about a year ago, 20MHz analog, used it for all my plasma repairs, it went at £38 plus £5 courier.

Post a pic/model # before buying scope so we can be sure it will work - there are some old junkers worth nothing but their scrap weight - also try to get some probes for it.

Hey Please someone help me I have Samsung Plasma PS43D490A1LXL with sound but no picture , I have checked the pcb board its working fine with proper voltages when i remove the X-sustain (x-main) board , if i would connect the x-sustain board voltages are dropping , what would be the problem & how to rectify it . is x-sustain board is repairable ..? if repairable, which components would be the problem for this cause . My X-sustain board Model no :42DH , PCB NO:LJ41-09478A,PBA NO:LJ92-01796A & REV NO:R1.8(11/10/26)

might give you an idea of where to look. I'm guessing it's 4 IGBTs and the Driver IC.

The IGBTs usually go dead short so you should be able to find them. may have to remove them to confirm in case 1 shorted part is shorting others in cct.

As for the driver IC I would expect which ever one was driving the shorted IGBTs would be the bad one.

Again I am guessing. Not sure how many have tried component repair on these, most would track down a board.

Thanks for your valuable reply , i have changed the transistors[RJP30H1] & IC which you have mentioned then also am with same problem . shall i change the two transistors (RFUS1U TF4S & 30G124)which have heat sink in the x-sustain board .

I simply don't know, did anything pop or are the replaced parts shorted again?

                                so you found shorted transistors?

Hopefully someone who has repaired these before is watching.

I think you'll find RFUS is a diode. I'd only replace parts confirmed to be shorted and maybe anything associated around it that can't be proven.

I've only board swapped a C450 with bad Xmain, it did have 2 shorted IGBTs but I did have a quick go at replaccing those to have it fail again which I was not too surprised, it was only half a go because i had some parts to put in so it was a gamble.

Sorry to hijack a thread, but having issues with same model, changed both x and y boards with replacements from ebay, still didnt switch on even though voltages seemed ok and all was huming with power, I bought similar set ( PS43D450A2W ) with a smashed screen but it is only 2d and not a 3d set, any how changed x and y board still wouldnt boot so I swapped out the mainboard and comes straight on, with it not being the correct revision main board I am loosing the 3d, my question is what could be the fault with the original main board any pointers as to what to look at and could I use the working mainboard as a donor

Usually, the cause of this fault is corrupted firmware on the main board. The firmware will probably also control the 3D capabilities so there is not much you can do. You may have to just get a 3D mainboard. There is a small chance you can simply swap over the EEPROM between the boards - little 8 pin SMD device - which can sometimes encode this capability.
