I've yet to pop the back cover off. Any guidance would be much appreciated. And by the way, this forum is awesome given the way I like to tinker with things.
I too have this LG TV and noticed dark spots occurring with purple green tinges. Rather than try and capture my own TV, I found someone posted a youtube video with similar issues here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsMPy2XjVHk.

Can anyone advise what the issue is, how I can test and can I repair this myself?

    I really appreciate the help.

As mentioned previously check for cracked solder joints under these components

      and similar on Y-sustain.

I'm having similar problems. Wondering if the Y or X is culprit in my set.

Check above, ER inductor cold joints.

I took the backing off last night and fiddled with the pots a bit and I haven't seen purple haze since. I might take off the boards tonight since they're right there just to be safe.

It's probably because you moved the boards and the solder joints have temporarily made connections again. AFAIK, the LG pot tweaks can't cause this effect (only sparklies in dark, image retention, or extreme maldischarge over the whole panel.)

I should probably just bite the bullet and do this with mine, even though I don't have any issues with it right now. Guess its good to just be proactive and do it now.

From what I've seen, it doesn't appear to damage anything, it just causes the image to go bad. It might eventually damage something, though.

Should I wait a certain amount of time to remove the boards after unplugging the tv? Don't want to risk any kind of shock.

And will I have to redo the pots once I get the backs resoldered if they are indeed bad?

Yes, you want to give it 15-20 min to discharge.

Only if the image is still bad

I just wanted to send a quick shout-out to Tom and thank him for his guidance. I have an LG plasma and was experiencing the color distortion described. After inspecting the boards, I found three cracked solder joints on the indicated coils. I re-soldered the culprits and the picture is restored! Thanks!!

Ditto on the shoutout to Tom and others that first identified this issue. I did this fix and it worked for several weeks. However, my soldering was poor and now I'm having other issues that I will be attempting to start a new thread on.

Hi guys, sorry to bring up a old thread again, first time poster and i have this issue with my 60" LG60PZ570-TB the colour is going funny mainly on the lighter colours like peoples faces its going green and purple every now and then. Not to sure what you guys are meaning by the Y and Z boards etc, do i need to lay the tv flat on the floor to take the back off or can it be dont stood up? any pics or info on how to take the back off correctly or which side these boards are that i am looking for the cracked solder joints? Thanks

This part is no longer available, I was going to write TV off until I found this forum.

I can't believe I didn't check for dry joints, if I flipped it over I would have seen those super-obvious dry joints.

                                    Unfortunately didn't fix my fault.
