Reseating Ribbon Connectors while TV is on

I have a 2011 Panasonic Plasma and when replacing the SN board I got 3 horizontal black bars across the screen.

I then went ahead and reseated 1 of the ribbon cables going to the SN board and one of the black bars went away.

While reseating the next one, the TV shut down and gave me 7 blinking lights.

The whole time the TV was powered on.

My question is, what is the most common cause for the TV to shut down?

I read somewhere that something happened to the SN board. What did I likely damage and what is the most common fix?

    Thanks!

This is also a good thread to warn people not to reseat any cable with the TV powered on!

You either shorted the sn board the buffer board or worse the buffer board sn board and power supply.

Never mess with cables while the tv is on. Lots of stored up voltage and with the voltage going to the panel in plasma TVs there is quite a bit of voltage there.
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

I'm thinking I shorted a buffer driver IC on the SN board (SD, SU, SC in one board)

I would think one of SN board or Power Supply would short out before they both short out at the same time.

Is it possible the Power Supply would short out only?

I am getting 7 blinking LED lights and that indicates the SN board though.

Never reseat panel ribbons with the TV running, you've blown your SN. There was another instance of this recently posted of someone doing the same thing.

That was likely me that did that

I was wondering what component on SN board would most commonly blow by doing this? That's really my original question.

Not sure, buffer ICs or maybe some of the IGBTs or both. I've never been in this position to investigate it.

T-con suspect issue. Both ribbon cables no picture. One ribbon cable ok. (58pus8545)
                by Tr0ll
Hi guys! I realized you have a lot of knowledge here so i am hoping you could point me in right direction with my odd issue.

The Tv is a Philips 58PUS8545/12, it had no picture but working backlights.

                Original T-con:
Opened the Tv and tested to unplug one ribbon cable at a time. With this test i could see that i got fine picture on both halves as long as there was only one ribbon cable connected, with two connected picture were gone.

                First replacement T-con:

I thought it might be t-con and ordered new t-con from china(supposedly tested)...

LG 55LF652V-ZA flashing led bars despite their replacement
                by Akira81
                Hello everyone,

I have this 55" LG 55LF652V-ZA smart TV which suddenly started flashing intermittently every 2 seconds with the backlight.

If I aimed the light bulb of my cell phone I could see the underlying image even in those fractions of time when the LEDs were off and the audio instead came out continuously.

Armed with a lot of space and patience, I decided to open the TV, immediately noticing that a LED had flamed out and also burned a portion of that reflective white panel behind the transparent LED diffusers.

TCL 50S535 bad tcon or panel issue?
                by x_orange90_x
Just bought this for 10 bucks yesterday hoping to fix it. The guy said water dropped inside from a dehumidifier hose and it started showing black and white vertical bars then went blank. When I got it home and turned it on it came on fine and displayed correctly but I was noticing faint vertical bars in the image. After a little bit I turned it off and back on and it was a black screen again. I opened it up to check for water damage and corrosion but didn't find anything of the sort. I cleaned the ribbons anyway and reconnected them but still got a blank screen. If I disconnect the right side...

Crimping CAT7 connectors high failure rates
                by CapLeaker
I’ve had and got a few projects using quality CAT6 and CAT7 23awg solid copper, shielded, direct burial cable. Each time I use CAT7 connectors, most of them fail making good connections to the 4 wire pairs after crimping. I tied a couple of crimping tools, thinking my crimper is bad. Also used different CAT7 RJ45 connector manufacturers. Same thing. I kinda calculate 6 connectors to make one cable!
Get this: I use CAT5 or CAT6 connectors, no problem. Very rare I have a miss crimp with those. So what gives?! ...

                Quick question about the ribbon
                by Rubenlily
                Hey,

So I have horizontal lines on my TV and I'm trying to trouble shoot. My question about the ribbon is:

When I disconnect one ribbon from the t-con I should get half picture working and other half black or something like that correct? But when I disconnect the ribbon on one side I just get a dark screen and it doesn't matter what side I disconnect. I just get the dark screen. No half working, no one half black and the other one left. Sound is playing from the TV so it's obviously on and when both sides are connected I have the picture with the horizontal lines...
