I have a Panasonic THL42U20A that powers on but does not shows anything on the screen. All you can see is the backlight behind the LCD. When you press the AV button you see the backlight flash slightly suggesting the main board is operating normally. Does this seem like a T-Con fault?

Re: Panasonic THL42U20A Backlight But No Picture
can you play a source through it ie a dvd etc if so can you see a faint picture on the screen with a flashlight aimed at the lcd you may have to try various angles also have tyo tested the voltage on either side of the t con fuse you may want to post some pictures up of the boards in your set as well. -

I just checked the T-Con fuse and it's fine. Funny the T-Con is actually made by LG which might mean the panel is too. The chip itself on the T-Con may be bad do you think?
I can upload images if you need them but I don't think they really show much.Comment

Re: Panasonic THL42U20A Backlight But No Picture
Quite frustrating I can't seem to get audio out of it. I'm sure it's working though it could be muted or something I actually just sold the 37" version of this the other day I could of used it as a guide.Last edited by max1636; 01-02-2014, 07:41 AM.Comment

by triplefourthis tv is throwing me for a loop. do samsung tvs no longer have the backlight self test feature built into the power supply?
i tested the backlight with my LED tester and it lights up both strips. one of them reads 100v and the other reads 63.7v.
unplugged mainboard from power supply but left backlight plugged in, and then plugged psu wall power in. expected to see backlights light up but see nothing.
according to how ive diagnosed in the past, this would almost always be a bad power supply. replacement power supply was cheap like 20$ from ebay. but still i get not even... -
by Bazfletch3Hi all
While I have quite a decent background in electrical & electronic troubleshooting & repairs, this is my first time stripping down an LCD TV for repair.... I have inherited a 3yr old Panasonic LCD which has a picture, but it is quite dark (too dark to be watchable - but still quite easy to see; I didnt need a torch to see it).
I started by checking and trying to adjust all of the picture and backlighting levels, but that made little to no difference. I also did a factory reset.
From there I envisaged that the backlighting wasn't working, however... -
by TR103Hi, I have a Samsung UE50TU with:
- sound and backlight, but no picture
- when it arrived, it had a picture for a few seconds
- it keeps rebooting
- without ribbon cable between the two panel boards, it does not reboot but I have no picture
- without cable between mainboard and lcd panel, it does not reboot (but obviously i have no picture)
- when i try a tape fix, its keeps rebooting, unless I tape off pin 1 (the innermost pin). In that case it does not reboot but I have no picture.
- without cable between mainboard and lcd panel and with a jumpered... -

i have a samsung lcd tv
it powers on with sound and backlight but no picture
all voltages from PS are good 12v 3.3v and 5v
whats odd is that at the tcon i tested voltage across the fuse on the tcon and i get 0v
i figured main board issue..so i ordered a used main board....when i put replacement main board in i still have same issue
no 12v at the tcon fuse
i disconnect the panel ribbon cables to rule out any panel issues and i still have no 12v at the tcon fuse
the odds of having 2... -
by IerwinHello everyone,
Ive got a UE60KU6079 on the workbench that is giving me some headaches trying to troubleshoot.
The previous owner stated that there had been white dots on the screen which from the description sounded like some lenses fell of the backlight LEDs.
He had opened the TV from the back, trying to get to the backlight, supposedly gave up, reassebled everything and gave the TV to me.
I expected the worst like ripped COF cables or a cracked panel but could not find anything like that yet.
Anyway I still fully expect that there has been something seriously damaged... - Loading...
