Samsung PS51D6900 will not switch on

I have a PS 51D6900 that will not switch on, watching TIVO on it when tivo went bang, tv went off, all lights on on tivo and burning smell from it.
After that TV will not switch on, click when mains applied, green led in back flashing on/off once per second. Ir received light on front flickers when remote signal applied.

Had a look in back, main fuse ok, nothing obvious.

Any clues or ideas much appreciated.

    Thanks to all,

    Steve

Can you post a picture of the boards in the chassis?
If you left the Samsung melody on (it's an option in the menu which may have been turned off) do you still hear this when turning the TV on?

Re: Samsung PS51D6900 will not switch on

      Hello,
Unfortunately, I didn't have the melody enabled.

I have a feeling that a power surge/spike may have been the cause, weather was pretty foul when this occurred.

      Will take some photos tomorrow.

      Thanks

Re: Samsung PS51D6900 will not switch on

If it's a power surge the most likely candidates will be a main board or power board fault. I'm banking on main board. Faults can enter through the HDMI cable, if your TiVo (Virgin?) is damaged, it could have allowed the transient to reach the TV too.

I have taken a more detailed look at the power and main boards and found the attached damage to main board.

As I expected. The damage entered through the HDMI port.

Can you confirm if there is a light on this board and if it is flashing:
                https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...6&d=1388574388
if so, does it flash about once a second, or about once every 5~7 seconds?

And, in a dark room, that is nearly pitch black, can you see any glow emitted from the display (though a Series 6 2011 Samsung may be quite dark...!)

This is HDMI 1, which is the port that was connected to the TIVO box.

Yes, there is a light flashing on this board at about once per second, and there is a faint glow coming from the panel.

Re: Samsung PS51D6900 will not switch on

If those components are bad, I suspect that the main processor is completely fried; they're intended to protect that port and they've been completely destroyed in the process. The fix would therefore involve replacing the main board as the damage is probably too substantial to repair. I suspect the main video processor will have been in the very least badly damaged.

However, since the panel has a faint glow, it looks like the only fault is the main board.

So, test patterns can be activated:
                        https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...61&postcount=2

The test pattern jumper is CN2010 on the board with the flashing light. The LVDS cable is the orange one with TOP PANEL printed on it.

If these are good all you need to do is replace the main board:

                        http://shop.nescom.co.uk/Samsung-MAI...02Q-BN4101605A

(last one looks too cheap: confirm with seller first!)

Carried out test, pattern is ok.

That's a relief, I will order up a main board.

Just to let everyone know, the tv is fixed now, main board was goosed.
Got a new one from Emos, very helpful.

Tom, thanks for the help and guidance received, much appreciated.

Now to get some contribution to it from Virgin...

Best that I don't hold my breath.

                                Cheers again

Glad to hear, but why should Virgin pay for your TV? The power surge damage isn't their fault, even the best designed box could fail in such a way. Surge protectors don't help as much as you'd think. Insurance/warranty/self repair is only way.
