    Samsung LN40A500T1F

Got this free TV from a friend who knows that this is a hobby of mine.
    Samsung LN40A500T1F
It has the blinking red light on the power button.
It will not power on at all. I thought for sure that it was the Main Board, so I bought one on ebay for $35. Turns out to be a different problem as the same symptoms continue.
I don't see any bulging caps on the power supply so I assume that is not the problem.
Last time I was working on a TV I could get the inverter and the backlights to shine verifying that the power supply is good. I cannot however remember how to do that. I think I unplugged the Main Board from the power supply and then plugged it in. But I think I am doing it wrong.

Here are some pics if someone would like to take a look and help me out.

My main goal is to just locate the defective board and or repair the board (if it is simple as ordering something from DigiKey).

Not sure if this power supply-inverter combo board has built-in pull up resistors for the PS_ON, BL_ON or not, you can disconnect the cable between the power supply board and the main board to see if the backlights will come on when you apply AC to the TV.

Yeah, budm, I did that and they didn't turn on.
      Bad power supply ?
Can I mimic that power supply to the inverter somehow ?

It may not be since the board may not have the pull-up resistors. Do you have the power supply part number? It should be something like BN44-XXXXX, then I can look up the diagram for it.

OK, this power supply does not have pull-up resistors, so for you to test the function of this power supply/inverter board you will have to use 1K resistor between PS_ON pin and STB5.1V pin, and another 1K resistor between inverter on/off (on/off) and the STB5.1 pin.

Does that mean I have to cut one of the cables on that ribbon, or do I just unplug the ribbon and "hot jump" it with a couple of small alligator clips ?
                Thanks for the help btw.

I think you mean to attach to the under side of the board with the 1k resistor on the power supply (Ps-ON to the Stb5-1v) and then on the interver board (inverter on/off (on/off) and the STB5.1 pin).

is a half watt carbon film resistor 1k ohm the right resistor ?
I have both metal film 1 watt and carbon film.

but the other end of the ribbon cables shown here should be unplugged from the Main Board.

okay, the result is that the back lights power on.
So that means that the power supply and the inverter boards are good ?
And the main board is bad ?

In general yes you can check things like voltage regulators and DC/DC converters, but more than likely you will find that the firmware or eeprom is corrupt which would be challenging to fix.

                                          by Asraf Atb
                                          Hi everyone,

Im looking for some advice regarding my Samsung UE55MU8000 TV with main board model BN94-11606C. The TV suddenly stopped turning on and now shows no signs of life at all not even the standby light at the bottom.

Initially, I suspected an issue with the PSU, so I took it to a repair center. They tested it and confirmed that the PSU works perfectly, even on other TVs. Based on that, I started investigating the main board.

I disconnected the main board from the PSU, and the backlight turned on, which seems to confirm the main board is the issue....

                                          by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                                          Assuming...

Hi and thanks in advance for any input you might provide!
I have a Sceptre U550CV-UMRD8POTV83BB 4K LED (this is a dumb tv) that I bought new in August 2021, so It's just completed 3 years.
Main power board model: TP.MS3683.PC821 T-Con board: N4TP546UHDPU2L_BO

Last Sunday I was watching a dvd and fell asleep for about half hour, when I awoke the tv screen was black and couldn't get the dvd menu to show, so I changed the input to antenna and had sound but no picture, turned it off. I then got online and found this great site! ....read many troubleshooting tips and this...

                                          Samsung Power Supply Board BN44-00874F
                                          by Nicktronic
                                          Hey everyone,

This power supply board is hard to find but there are repair kits available. This board had a blown fuse, FP801S, blown PFC MOSFET, QP802CS and ceramic cap, CP809. I replaced them with parts I already had and tested the rest of the parts that would've come in the repair kit and they were fine. I powered the board up on the bench expecting, in typical Samsung power supply board fashion, to see all my output voltages but, nothing. 0 volts on CNL801, CNM801 and CNT801. The only thing I have is 170vdc on the filter caps. No standby voltage either.

                                          Anybody...

                                          Hi everyone,

I’m looking for help with a persistent issue on an LG TV model 55NANO77SRA, which uses the main board EBU66792103 (also used in LG UQ80 and NANO75/NANO80 series).

                                          🧩 Problem Summary:
                                          • The TV keeps scrolling through the menu or selecting items by itself.
                                          • I removed the physical button board (the entire panel with power and volume buttons) and also disconnected the flat cable (CN202) from the main board.
                                          • The remote control is not in use (batteries removed), and the TV still shows the same behavior.
