    LG 50PA5500 no picture

OK, I followed a thread on fixing this TV but it seems to have stopped before I got all the info I needed. So far here is what I've done. Replaced the power supply (it was bad for sure) and moved on to the Y-sus which showed very low and pulsing voltages witht the buffer boards connected but about 190 and 50vdc with them disconnected. Replaced the y-sus and buffers and put the shorting plug into the control board with the main board disconnected from it. The screen lit and went thru one test pattern and that was it. Re-checked the y-sus and the voltages are down again so I disconnected the boards and it's back to 190vdc and 50vdc on vy and vsc on the y-sus. Now I don't know whether to get another buffer board for the one I think just quit or what. Is there an enable voltage for the y-sus that senses a short in the buffers and then keeps the y-sus from turning on? I can hear the control board trying to cycle the test pattern with the pins shorted but no screen again. Also the main power light is lit when tv is plugged in and turns off when the power button is pushed (but it does enable the power supply). Kind of lost here.

Update: Pulled the upper y-buffer and hooked everything back up. I now have half a screen . Yeah! I just ordered another upper used board and I hope that's it. Weird how the y-sus goes to low voltage and pulses with the bad buffer installed.

On this model if the upper buffer is bad the panel is HIGHLY suspect. There is a very common issue with these models where the ribbon gets torn/damaged causing the buffer to fail. The ribbon is bonded to the panel and not serviceable.

well, I got this tv thinking that it was a capacitor issue. I checked for bulging capacitors and replaced the rectangle capacitor at c802 on the power supply and the tv still doesnt show a picture. i checked the ribbons on the y-sus buffer board and didnt see a tear. what could it be tom66?

Oh how many times have I heard this. True about 10% of the time.

Anyway, pull the upper Y-buffer. If the picture comes back on the bottom half, it's a panel fault.

tom66, i hear you when you say you've heard this many times about tvs and storms.
So, I pull the Y-buffer off and then power up the tv with the buffer off?

Yes, top buffer. Power TV with it disconnected from Y-sus, you can leave it connected to the panel ribbons (orange) I recommend taping it out of the way.

Common to see a short on top side of panel.... Removing the top buffer allows the bottom buffer to function and display the bottom half of the picture.

Then the fault might be different - further tests necessary. You will need a digital multimeter.

P.S. Please don't post in three separate topics about the same TV. I've removed your other thread.

Thought you had done it already due to the previous image.

The white connectors by any chance? They are stubborn.. Just gotta keep wiggling and pulling.

Hi guys! I realized you have a lot of knowledge here so i am hoping you could point me in right direction with my odd issue.

The Tv is a Philips 58PUS8545/12, it had no picture but working backlights.

                                          Original T-con:
Opened the Tv and tested to unplug one ribbon cable at a time. With this test i could see that i got fine picture on both halves as long as there was only one ribbon cable connected, with two connected picture were gone.

                                          First replacement T-con:

I thought it might be t-con and ordered new t-con from china(supposedly tested)...

This was my main TV for the last 6 years. I'm not inclined to throw out a $2600 TV so quickly so I'm trying to investigate the issue.

                                          Problem
TV was disconnected from power for 6 months during construction. When I plugged it yesterday picture was fine, after 30 seconds it dimmed then started developing horizontal lines, picture then starts to ghost vertically until it degrades into vertical streaks. TV always displays a perfect picture when cold. I can unplug TV for 5 minutes and plug it back in and picture is restored for 20 seconds. I can also keep it in standby mode...

Samsung TV model UE50TU: rebooting, backlight, sound, but no picture
                                          by TR103
                                          Hi, I have a Samsung UE50TU with:
                                          - sound and backlight, but no picture
                                          - when it arrived, it had a picture for a few seconds
                                          - it keeps rebooting
                                          - without ribbon cable between the two panel boards, it does not reboot but I have no picture
                                          - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel, it does not reboot (but obviously i have no picture)
                                          - when i try a tape fix, its keeps rebooting, unless I tape off pin 1 (the innermost pin). In that case it does not reboot but I have no picture.

                                          - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel and with a jumpered...
