OK, next to the blue caps is a device mounted on a metal heatsink. Can you get the part # of this device? It will be written on it. You may need a light to see the writing.

The transistor? My eyes aren't perfect, probably could use a magnifying glass, but it appears to say.

      DK43
      Q0465R

Edit: On closer inspection, that's not a transistor at all. It's got 5 legs instead of 3.

Please check voltage between pin 2 and 3. Be very careful not to slip, high voltage side!

          DC still?

I can't even get a probe to pin 3. They are too fat. :-/

Edit: I was able to unplug it and work the pins apart a tiny bit.. enough to get a probe in there... Correction. Originally I reported 0 volts. I was measuring the wrong pins. Pins 2 and 3 were 4.45 volts. Measuring DC.

Was it steady 4.45V, no obvious changes or such?

This indicates that three components should be replaced.
That device on the heatsink, and the two nearby capacitors.

Get the values of the capacitors and a Digikey order can be made. (I think they will have the heatsinked device.)

You will need solder wick, a soldering iron, a good solder sucker and

and? ... AND??? You can't leave me in suspense like that!! haha.

Seriously, though.. Yeah, it seemed pretty steady. I'll check it one more time to be sure, but it was tricky.

I should mention that the first time I tested it, and was testing the wrong probes and got a zero reading, after unplugging it, I did get a tiny zap when pulling the probe away. I didn't think I touched anything, but there was a definite spark.

Was this just the cap discharging? Could I have fried that controller?

Re: Visio E470VL won't power on.

Alright, so I just had time to verify this.. rough week. I pulled the heatsink off that part, and stuck a probe across pins 2/3 and it read 4.45v solid. At first I saw it jumping around, but turned out I just wasn't really making solid contact with one of the pins.

So I'm going to jump on digikey and order up one Q0465r, and a couple 5v caps. One 47uf, and the other 22uf.

but do you think I fried it myself when testing, as I explained above, and there's actually another problem?

Also they only have one q0465r in stock at digikey..

The top one, do you think this one will be ok?

Uh, my bad. Totally missed your posts. And was in a rush to submit.

                    That device should work fine.

No problem. I ordered it. We'll see how it turns out. If not, it's the only one that they had in stock so it'll have to do. Can't hurt to try for 2.50 total.

No love. ripped out the old parts, soldered in the new ones... Still won't turn on. Think I'll just buy a board.

Hi Tom. Quick Question. I cannot find a power board from a reputable source that is in stock. I'm not sure if it's made anymore or not. My board is part number 3PCGC10016a-R. I have found another board that is part number 3PCGC10016c-R The pinouts are pretty much the same. The only difference is, that on the power out to the main board the pins that are 5v on my board are 5.2v on the 3PCGC10016c-R. Otherwise everything looks the same. They layout is exactly the same as my board. Would that board be suitable? I have compared the boards at www.shopjimmy.com.

I found an original power board on ebay and installed it, and all working again. Thanks for all the help guys.
