    Re: Toshiba 37RV530U No power

Whoa, my bad. Looking at the board again, I am fairly confident where it should be. Need me some caffeine....

The one on there is 25v 1000uf Jamicon

F1 with mm set to ohms with the line and block arrow (continous maybe, lower than the 200 setting) shows .000 with TV off one lead on each side. Please correct me if I checked that wrong.

Both should be 35V, 680uF, low ESR types.

        Re: Toshiba 37RV530U No power

I have a couple 35v, 1000uF CapXon lying around from a Samsung repair. I could not find a faulty cap on a power board so I replaced them all. Worked out in that instance. So the 4 I have may or may not work physically. I do not have any means to test except my digital mm. Which of course cannot fully test a cap.

Should I splurge and just spend the $3 each tomorrow evening (next time I can get there, they are closed today) or would it harm anything to solder them in and cross my fingers. If the brand is crap, I can always replace them before I put it back together. More thinking troubleshooting.

$3 per cap? Where from? That's a crazy price. Digikey is about $1 per cap plus $2.50 2-day shipping... and you can be sure they are high quality (most store bought ones are not.)

            Re: Toshiba 37RV530U No power

            I checked their store page. They have 680 25v (1.17) and 680 50v (1.70)

            1000 35v is 2.69.

Here is the spec sheet for their caps: http://cablesandconnectors.com/PIX/ntevhtcap.jpg

I can get from either, does not matter to me but I have had good luck with them as a store previously.

If I get from this store, is my thinking correct that I should get the 680 50v as high voltage is ok, higher uF is not. Did the other guy possibly screw up the whole board by putting a 1000 uF 25v cap on here?

Unfortunately they would not be suitable, as they are not low ESR / low impedance. I would also not trust NTE (they may be fine, but they may also be unreliable: my list of "good" manufacturers is Panasonic, Rubycon, Nichicon, Nippon/United Chemicon, Sanyo/Suncon and Fujitsu.)

              These would be good:

OK, I will order the ones you linked to. Should have them in a few days and will post back.

While waiting, any thoughts on the 2.2v on a 12v line? I unplugged the backlight and got the same readings. The 2.2v is going to the main board.

That does seem bad, didn't notice that before. The power_LCD signal is there, so I'd look at whatever circuit switches the 12V power on (from the normal 12V source)... I -do- have a working ZEUS install, could you send me the manual & I'll post pictures of schematics.

I will hold off on ordering any caps in case there are more parts to order. The only power boards I was able to find was with you in the UK and I do not want to at this point pay $75 US total to get the board and ship it here. This was one of a lot of 7, maybe if we cannot fix it on a component level, I will see what kind of profit I can turn from fixing other ones.

I do not have the manual, I think it was newtothis talking about the Zeus program.

                    Thanks

Welp, I can't get Zeus to work well with that manual either. Gonna have to work on pictures alone. Please post a picture of the underside of your power board.

Yeah some of the manual will work with Zeus but the majority won't, I have tried alternative means of reading the DWF files directly but had no luck. I will keep trying though

Tom what version of DWF viewer are you using? Maybe its an incompatibility if your using 7.0 as I am.... I will try 6.5

NOTE: DWF Viewer 7.0, recently released by AutoDesk does not display drawings correctly or at all. It is recommended that version 6.5 offered above be used.

*** Still no joy with 6.5, though when i try opening any of the images within the manual directly with DWF Viewer I see it for a fraction of a second then it just turns grey :S ***

I can get a 37Z3030D manual to load, but no luck with this one. I am using VirtualBox emulation (running on Ubuntu) with Windows XP, IE 6.0, DWF Viewer 7 (from Autodesk.) I can only open some block diagram DWFs. The others don't work.

Ugh Toshiba, WHY oh WHY do you use this crap ZEUS instead of a plain old PDF like... I don't know... everyone else???

Here is everything for the back of my board. I have taken some more volt readings on the main board, will get those up in a minute. Need to organize my notes.

The following will use this picture for a reference. I wanted to check the components on the heat sinks and got 3 of the 4 done before my son woke up screaming. TV is plugged in with power ON for these readings.

                                http://www.2shared.com/photo/ZCkd8LC...wer_front.html

Upper left heat sink, 5 main pins. Left to right in pic: 168.5v, -32.8v, -34.2v, -34.2v, -34.2v.

                                Lower left heat sink, 3 main pins D871 23.5v, D870 23.5v, D872 11.6v

Lower right heat sink, D820 left to right in picture 32.2v, 0v, 0v, -34.2v

                                Hope these help some

Huh, I'm trying to trace the 12VLCD but I can't see where it goes on that image, it's too fuzzy unfortunately (not helped by the fact that the board layout is bizarre.)
Can you try taking a photo in bright light, like in sunlight, or tracing the path of the 12VLCD to other parts? Just draw on the image what you can see.

That works for me. There is a very visible burn mark in that 8 pin surface mount IC just above left of the connector, I reckon that is causing your fault.
What is the part # of this device?

This one here circled? Is the burn the upper right divot or the lower bump? The bump went away after cleaning, the divot stayed.

That was pretty tough to find, very very very faint. The third line I can not say with much confidence as there may be a scratch on the number. It is ONE of the following:
