HITACHI P50H401 - evolution of repairs and now what?

    Hi guys,

I was going to make a folow-up of my repairs on another thread, but decided to start a new one since I need advice of you all.

So my plasma had the three time blinking problem. I checked the power supply board where the two big capacitors where swollen. I change that and check the board on almost all components, and was confident it was ok to put back in. That was yesterday.

My upper buffer board has two blown chips, but after further review two more pair of ceramic capacitors gave me a bad reading meaning they where blown too. Better off to buy a new board on this part.

So I disconnected my lower buffer board and put the juice in the tv to check my repaired power supply. Everything went ok, blue light and fan goiing, no more blinking. I turn power off and plug in the lower buffer board. Put power back on and see the two pictures below. Lines and colors on the screen. The tv put itself on power save mode (orange light) after two minutes. I tried it three times, same result everytime - power save mode. I turned everything off at this moment to check the three large connections on the left side of the buffer board thinking it could be the problem of those lines in the lower part showing on the tv.

I had before plugging everything back on checked a few ic chips and transistors on the upper and lower YSUS board that people in other thread regarding this Plasma TV and everything seemed to be, again, ok.

Well, after I disconnect and reconnect these three large band connectors and started the tv again to check if it could have been this problem, a familiar cracking sound and smoke came along in the party shop and there I blown my lower buffer board where three ic chips are fu***d. I then got the three blinking lights again. I unplugged the lower Buffer board and still had the blinking lights. I almost put the hammer in. I took a quick glance at the power supply and no problems where showing. I took a beer and got to sleep.

I therefore need the two buffer boards for this TV.

I tried the TV again this morning to check if my power unit is alive, and surprise I have the blue light, blinking is gone so everything seems to be ok on that side.

Everything seems to be pointing at a bas YSUS board. I will disconnect it and check everything on it.

Any pointers on where I should concentrate on this board? A fellow member on this forum pointed me on the upper ysus M662 and lower ysus M672 ic chip but they were ok. I'll recheck them and others.

    Thank in advance,

    Cheers

Yes, you most likely have a bad Y-Sus that is blowing buffer chips. These Hitachis do that.

Where can I find diagrams of the boards, listings of the components and all other specs we could use on this TV if it exists?

Is there a chip, transistor or other specific item that blows more often than others from your experience?

          Here you go: http://www.toms-service-manuals.com/...&Search=Submit

I didn't fix the Hitachi I had, and it's been a few years since I last looked at the inside of one of these.

              Quick follow-up

I tested the CN32 connector that goes from the PWSupply to the YSUS board. Using this chart https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/...674265e19b.pdf I wanted to know if the YSUS board was at fault. Well, turns out that three out of four pair tested on the connector where giving me infiniti for a reading, but one pair gave me a reading of 540 / 1707...

At this point, should I try to find what is the trouble for that last bad reading and try to fix it, or should I just try to sell what's left of the TV as spare parts.

I have the two buffer boards to buy, and if my Power supply or my Ysus board are at fault, I won't repair it.......

              Anyone had this problem?

              Thanks in advance!

              Jeff

                  Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

Schematic or datasheet for Plasma TV buffer chip
                  by Yanleb
                  Hi all,

I'm interested in understanding how a buffer board chip is working. I know there's about 90 outputs per chip to the plasma panel, but I'm more interested to know about the input pins. I guess that some of them are address pins, but I want to know more.

So far I've found nothing at all. I haven't found any datasheet about the various buffer chips, and I haven't found any schematic for the buffer board using them (Y Buffer Board in Samsung's terminology).

Any information will make me happy. It can be from any buffer chip or plasma TV manufacturer....

LG 42PC3 buffer output doesn't follow YSUS
                  by legg
LG42PC3D -UD originally with green lamp but no display or audio.
Owner says was working, then went 'pop'.
                  All 5V caps bulging. replaced.
All PSU output voltages within spec but -Vy is low on YSUS.
One of three parallel fets between SUS_OUT and SUS_DN is zenering,
eventually shorts DG. Replaced all 3 - -Vy now OK.

Y scan buffer test point does not follow YSUS output below -50V

Note: This unit seems to expect YSUS output to park at -Vy in between
drive signal pattern periods. A replacement drive signal board confirms this....

                  TV Model: Hitachi 40HYC42
                  Power Supply: 17IPS71
                  MainBoard: 17MB95M
                  Panel: VES400UNDS-2D-NO3

When the set came in it was dead. Fuse was open primary side and the power mosfet was shorted. So I ordered a new power supply. Now it turns on, only displays "Hitachi" and then power off red and blue led flashing.

I had to modify the 0ohm resistors in the led backlight of the new PS like the original power supply.
Is there any variants on 17IPS71 power supply's?

UART output pins 10 and 12 on scart connector:
