Sharp LC-52XL2E - intermittent power off with 0x1D error code

Got this lovely 52in 1080p Sharp for very cheap - under £80 on eBay.

Fault is - intermittent shut down with green-red blink. Error cause in service menu is 1D, which points to AC Detect issue from what I can find.

    When working picture is awesome!

Going to tear it down soon. Pictures will be included.

Bingo. Tapped heatsink on power board (with screwdriver) and it shut off. Wait for it to come back, tapped it again, went off again. Found multiple cold joints. This looks like it might be an easy fix .

      As promised pictures.

This is by far the largest LCD, in fact largest TV I have ever worked on. Previous LCD record was 42" and plasma at 46"... I need to get even more bigger ones!

The solder joint fix appears to have held. I have to test this TV some more, but it looks like it is fixed.

Just to update, put the cover on and it's been going smooth for over 4 hours -- it looks like it's fixed. It has a very nice picture but not quite as good as my 46 inch Panasonic plasma (PZ80 series.) Though, the difference is slight, mainly in the dark levels and contrast.

Nice fix! I sometimes feel sharp tvs have better picture quality than other brands.

It has a Sharp LCD panel, in my opinion Sharp are market leaders in LCD tech, followed by Samsung (it's just a shame Samsung's TVs are rubbish and their LCDs have tons of tab bond faults and panel failures...)

The fault with this set was with the only part not made by Sharp the power supply by DELTA (though they are still a very good manufacturer in my opinion.)
