Resource/Tips on How to Find Failed Components on Plasma TV PCBs

I have a plasma tv that is proving difficult to troubleshoot (turns off after three seconds). Unplugging boards and trying to get the tv to stay powered on is not working. I think I need to try and locate some of the faulty components on one of the boards but I need some pointers on how to go about doing so.

I have a Hitachi P50S602, multimeter, soldering iron, desoldering pump and solder. If anyone knows any pointer, where to begin and/or easy to understand resources on how to approach this issue, I would love to hear about it.

Incidentally, it passes a visual inspection, i.e. no bulging caps, blown fuses or resistors and no real sign of heat damage.

    Thanks

The most common failures are the buffers and y sustain. Tom has written a very helpful guide to diagnosing common plasma faults. In order to provide helpful information we would like specific make and model of TV in the thread title and pictures of entire back of TV as well as individual circuit boards.
You should be able to download a service manual HERE
It takes a few seconds for the download to show up

Re: Resource/Tips on How to Find Failed Components on Plasma TV PCBs

Thank you, Celeb. I was unable to diagnose a failure on either the buffers or y sustain (ohm test and separately disconnected buffers and disconnected y sustain). I've read Tom's guide and it is very helpful, but this particular plasma is elluding usual diagnosis so I'm trying to hunt down the failure by testing the individual components (others have indicated Hitachis are difficult to diagnose). I've provided the requested pics, below.

The plasma turns on for three seconds, displaying a pdp maldischarge, then turns off with a five blue led blink error code; according to the service manual, this means 1st possible cause - ADM, ABUS; 2nd possible cause - XSUS, Logic, PSU

Since the usual diagnosing methods do not appear to be working, I was hoping to find a resource on how to troubleshoot the components on the boards, but I appreciate the individualized help...unfortunately, there is very little discussion on the web about this particulr model.

Re: Resource/Tips on How to Find Failed Components on Plasma TV PCBs

I finally found a way to get the blinking light to stop. If I unplug the Logic Board and hit the power button, the TV's LED turns solid red, then, solid blue, then turns off without ever blinking. Does anyone know if that means the Logic Board is defective? When I unplug any other board, the only thing that changes is the number of blinks.

Edit: Tom answered my question...the Logic Board controls the blinking led code, so the lack of blinking light is to be expected. :/

          Samsung PS51E550 Plasma TV
          by ArMaaN376
          Hello,
I am having Samsung PS51E550 Plasma TV. While the TV was working, a crackling sound heard & video went off with audio still ON. After switching it off & ON, the red LED on TV blinks six times & then off.
Opened TV cover & observed foll
          a) Green LED on the small PCB blinks at @5-6sec ON & off for 3-4 secs. Red LED on logic board ON
b)Vs & Va on power supply board raises momentarily to 209v & 58v resp & then drops.
          c) Cold test on Y-main board shows all 3 pins of FGPF4536 IGBT short to Grnd.

          Panasonic plasma TX-P42ST50 - 6 blinks
          by jm1234
          Hi,
anyone able to provide the service manual for old plasma Panasonic TX-P42ST50E?
It turns off almost immediately (0~5 seconds after pressing the on/off button) and starts flashing the red diode 6 times.
I disconnected the left-hand side board (SC?, both the ribbon cable and the power cable to it) and also another ribbon going to bottom left board. Then the led signal is 8 flashes. According to service guide to another Panasonic plasma it would mean the left-hand side board is faulty. But I'm not sure it 100% applies to my model.
I checked that board for any obvious faults...

Hitachi 55HDS69 55" Plasma TV - No Picture But Sound
          by KYBOSH
Picked up a bahemoth plasma TV not too long ago and just now getting around to looking at it.
No picture but you hear the TV static (white noise) playing loud and clear.
The back was already taken off (and no screws were provided) as the previous owner had already taken a look.
But it seems they didn't get too far and just left it.

When I first took a look I was amazed at how pristine the inside looked.
Its as if the TV had been in a time capsule.
Caps looked like they were just pulled off the self.
Copper coils had no sign of corrosion on...

          Dear members,
I have a problem with this machine that still I can't solve, I hope some of you can suggest me something.
I was the first one to open the machine and touch the mainboard, in fact the Lenovo seal was intact the first time that I unscrewed all the internal screws.
The ower told me that it was working very good until Windows kicked "something like a firmware update" (owner's words) then the system started acting weird.
When you try to start it, some seconds after having pressed the power button, Lenovo splashscreen appears, then after 1 second, in the...
