    Help with a Sharp LC-60LE835U

Hello, Great forum.....Hope someone can help me out a little bit. I bought this 60" Sharp broken on the cheap, in hops of fixing it. I think i might have narrowed it down to the Main Board, but not 100% sure.

So heres the issue. When plugging in the tv, it attempts to tune on, all the touch buttons light up, and the "V" LED light up, and it clicks like it wants to turn on, but nothing on the screen. It will click every 30 sec to a min for about 5 or so times, and then it will stop, and the front "V" LED will flash 3 times, and one quick time (3-1 error). Looked it up in the service manual, and wasn't much help but says its a "Communication line failure or main CPU start-up failure" leading me to believe its the main board.

But the previous owner said that they had replaced the power board, and got nothing, and they went ahead and replaced the main board, and said it had worked for a little bit, and then went again, he thought that he might have gotten a faulty main board, but gave up on the warranty, and sold it to me. But I'm afraid if i buy one, and put it in there, there might be something else causing this....is there something else to be on the look out for?

I was thingking about replaceing the T-Con board....but this didnt seem like a T-Con board issue.

Any suggestions on what I should do?

Why dont you try to disconnect the t-con board fom the mainboard and power up. See if the code changes. If not then I believe there is some internal communication error within the mainboard and you could try a new one

also while it's on before it restarts wuth the clicking before shutdown and the error code take a flashlight and shine it into the screennand seenif something appears. Look tonthe upper right corner area for the input to show up.

Did I leave the soldering iron on?

A communication error can be caused by a low supply voltage feeding one of the processors. On a 32" Sharp of mine it was caused by a 3.3V rail measuring 2.4V on the main board.

There were two sets of wires going to the T-Con board, a ribbon cable which i would assume is the lvds cable, and another with three wires grouped...ether way, I unplugged both and still the same action with clicking, and same code afterwards. I plugged everything back in, and tried flashing a light, and didn't see anything, but its facing the the window right now and its daylight....but i had also checked that to begin with the backlight error iv seen all over.

Out of curiosity how did you fix it, did you just buy a new board, or replace caps and such.

This might be hard to describe without a video, but I did a little testing with my multi-meter though it was hard to get to some of the pins. and also hard to tell what each pin is supposed to read while off, and on, but on the pin 5 that i tested on it was supposed to be 13.5v. with it turning on, it jumped to like 40 or 50 something every time it clicked on and stay there for a few seconds, and then do some more jumping in between after that, before going down to the 13.5 and then after that, it would slowly lower the voltage from 13.5 to about 1-2v, then click off and back on, and repeat the process....but testing it again, i get 12.9v....so just thought id throw that out there...then again, maybe the probe did have a good enough ground before not sure.

Make sure it wasn't reading in Mv.

I found a service tip from Sharp which said "replace this part". I confirmed the diagnosis by freeze spraying that part, because that made the set work again.

I had it set to DC.

Got the main board in today and replaced it, and its working, yay.....but now another slight problem.....I have a brown are in the bottom left-center where it looks like maybe a set of led's or went out. Would this be a t-con board issue, or bad set of led's? And if it is the led's, how hard is it to just replace, or repair the led's in the section? Or is is just going to cost me to much, and to just live with it?

                TIA

Yeah that looks like bad LEDs to me but double check all panel connectors from the LED driver board.

Damn......I'll look at that later....how hard is it to replace/or fix led's.

Re: Help with a Sharp LC-60LE835U

It's like Xmas lights. One LED goes bad, all in that strip go dark. You can use a coin cell battery or a good multimeter (Fluke et al) to test them. Most cheaper meters don't give a higher enough open circuit voltage for testing white LEDs (3V minimum, 3.5V~4V ideal.)

Wow another Sharp with LED failures. Im actually quite surprised the tv didnt throw a 1-1 code!

I know...i saw your thread on your 80" monster. No codes yet...but I have only turned it on twice....so that code could be coming.

Any good guides out there on how to do this, I tried searching youtube, but nothing much other then how to convert to led.

BTW guys, you have been so helpful and thank you very much!

Are the leds set up in clusters on the power board? Like 20 blue pins in a connector and 20 to a white or something like that? I would reseat the connections on the power supply for starters. Maybe the orig problem caused the mainboard issue?

ok now im confused..I believe i read somewhere that this is an edge lit led. I have 4 ribbon cables going to the panel its self from the t-con. Which are the only cables connected to the panel. I unplugged the cables, and re-seated them but still nothing, actually got it to do a 5-2 code, but that went away after i plugged back in the cables. now on the underside it looks like there are two more ribbon cables, which im going to assume do directly to the led's, but couldn't actually re-seat the cable, because its under the metal housing of the tv frame its self... iv attached a couple of pics to show what im talking about.

Disregard what I said about the blue and whire connectors. The 5-2 code is a tcon error. Thats normal if the connections are removed from there. maybe I'm missing something but I'm not seeing where the led cables going to the panel on your pictures at all. That's an interesting chassis

I believe it was the white and black connector that you removed from the tcon. Thats power to the tcon. That will give you a 5-2 code. can you take a full picture of the power supply please

Lol yea that thing is a beast! Its set up in my living room now wall mounted and all. It works great as kong as I dint unplug it. If I do its holding vol+ ch- while pressing power to get ut back up and running. Still working like this (fingers crossed). I actually removed and re installed the panel myself. Quite a challenge.

its got some odd balancer issue that thinks theee is a problem while theres actually not. Prob power supply. Yours though is really odd its powering up like it is.

Heres a pic from before with the highlighted area of where I couldn't get to, and another at a different angle to get a better picture of it.

EDIT. this is the same area on the lcd of where its dim.
