    Panasonic TC-50PS14 10 blinks

Well here it is, the scariest looking hack mod Ive yet to open. This set arrived at its former home after giving it original owner 10 blinks, The guy I got it from tried to implant all the boards from another model. None of the screws lined up sooo duct tape was the method of insulating and fastening the boards to the tv, a few wires were twisted around the grounding points. All in all it looked ready to go up in smoke at a moments notice.

Fortunately he gave me all the original boards, after about an hour I got everything back into the chassis and am getting the 10 blink error, hopefully nothing else got screwed up in the interim. Heres a big pic of the power board, this one doesnt have the MC modules that caused the 10 blink on my other panasonic. So Master Tom is there another common fault on this board that causes trouble.

Off to ElectroTanya to see if I can find a service manual.

    Re: Panasonic TC-50PS14 10 blinks

Found the manual Here if anyone else needs it. According to the manual the 10 blinks on this model is caused by the A board, However it appears from the schematic that the a board converts the 15v supplied by the power board to the rest of the required voltages. I put the scope on the 15v output on the power board and got nothing, but that was with all the harnesses plugged in, I will have to pull out the pins on the connector to isolate the a board fully as the same connector has the power supply on signal. I have to work the next 7 days straight but I will check in regularly.
Edit, found another thread on this model where a shorted sc was causing 10 blinks. Went and unplugged the sc and I have 15v to the A board momentarily and fault changes to 7 blinks, vs header is reading 280 ohms.

      Re: Panasonic TC-50PS14 10 blinks

After an 80 hour week I finally had a few minutes to finish troubleshooting this tv. Both the su and sd are shorted out, the main short on the sc cleared when i removed the buffers, however the tv cant pass the startup test with the sc connected. I noticed a blowout mark on D618 and sure enough it tests shorted. I have a few of the same diode on another sc I swapped out a while back. I will swap it out tomorrow hopefully that is the only fault as these sc's are made of unobtanium.

        Re: Panasonic TC-50PS14 10 blinks

Unlikely just the diode, I'd expect shorted FETs too, IGBTs FET driver ICs etc. Check the P-FET Q604, I've seen one of these boards posted before with that diode blown and Q604 was reported short as well.

I can't remember if anyone has successfully repaired these at component level yet which is a shame.

You know about the SC50 jumper for SC testing minus the buffers? Although with that diode like that I'd expect nothing good.

Yes I used the jumper to test the buffers, did you have the link to that other thread? I was looking over the schematic last night and was noticing this diode was tied into the drain of two fets so I was kinda expecting at least one of them to be blown. Im going to try and fix this at the component level as I cant really justify sinking 200$ into this tv, if I can get it to pass the self test I will buy some buffers for it. At least I have a schematic for this one I will test out all the components around that vsus circuit.

Hi Caleb. Not trying to hijack your thread here but I have basically the same set here with the 10 blink problem. TC-50SP1 Boards all look to be the same as yours. It will turn on for about 2 seconds and the fans run. Screen never glows or anything. Then it shuts down with the 10 blink code. Was wondering what you did to determine the shorts on the SC board. Mine has no apparent damage anywhere. Also, I believe Tom and some others on here have stated a way to test for a bad A board. Did you do this or do you know how to?

This is my first try on a Panasonic Plasma. Hope you get yours running and thanks!

To rule out A board isolate all connections from SC and SS including power and control, but leave the buffer/panel ribbons connected. Power TV up. You should get 6, 7 or 8 blinks if the SC or SS has a short. Reintroduce SS; if blink code is 6 or 7, then it's not SS.

Ok. With both boards unhooked the code went to 6 blinks.

Re-introduced SS and it's still 6 blinks. So that's telling me it's the SC board?

Wow. I only see a couple of these for sale and they are around $180. I only gave $25 for the set. May be time for some component troubleshooting. Any chance it's buffers? I saw earlier in this thread about jumpering the SC to test those. Wasn't sure how.

I'll look around for a board but not jumping on one that expensive for sure.

                      Thanks as always,

No problem Aaron, maybe between the two of us we can figure out the sc failure, I used this TRAINING GUIDE to isolate the sc although both my buffers are blown as well.

                        So far
D618 (8894) shorted and one pad blown off board
R613 (473) tests ok but also had a lifted pad
Q601 (RJK6026) tests .2 ohms across all leads
Q660 (RJK6026) tests .2 ohms across all leads
                        Q661 (RJP6065) tests 9.2 ohms G-C and G-E and .1 ohms C-E
L699 (471B) broke 1 lead while removing to access D618

Testing resistance across vsus to ground is now 700k, What is the likelyhood that those tiny driver transistors survived? Or do you guys think I got it all or should I continue to look for more before I order parts.

I saw a repair kit on EBay that I think included most if not all of those parts. I'm away from home right now but I'll start by checking those out later today. Even the kit is $80. This is obviously the most common board failure for this set. Every other board is readily available for much less.

Yes mine is the 4782, I will start looking at the repair kits and see if I missed something.

Checked the ebay listing its for one of each of the following
                              Q661
                              Q621
                              Q622
                              Q421
                              Q422
                              Q423
                              D421
                              D422
I tested all the rest and they appear to be ok, my question is now should I replace them for good measure as they could fail soon or just replace the failed parts.

Digikey doesnt have an exact replacement can I use any n channel mosfet as long as it has the same ratings?

Well, it would appear that the kit might take care of mine. Everything on that list from Ebay is showing shorted except Q661. The parts in the list you changed are all showing fine on my board.

I might try to source the parts elsewhere. That kit seems really high.

                                        Found datasheet attached below
                                        E-G = 4.1 Ohms
                                        E-C = 0.7 Ohms
                                        C-G = 4.4 Ohms

That's out of circuit now since I've pulled it.

Hello! yes I know there is already lots of information about this issue. I have a Panasonic TC-P55ST50 that originally displayed an 8-blink error code. Following the troubleshooting flowchart, I ended up replacing the SS board. However, even after replacing it, the issue persists. The TV turns on and stays on without displaying an image, and continuity is confirmed on all connectors. What am I missing here🤔?
Ok Im a mechanical engineer ...but I thought I was able to follow a rather simple flowchart for electric troubleshooting 😂.

Bought this TV used not working, panel flashed briefly on power up and it was blinking 8 times, a quick look on SS board revealed a common fault on the 3uF 250V capacitors, C201 to C205 (C1620X in the service manual), the solder joints were all cracked, C201 and C205 pins were darkened and some sparking had occurred on them, C201 was split open and clearly overheated in its last hours, replaced that one and resoldered the others, 8 blinks fixed.

Also the previous owner broke the antenna connector by taking the TV out of the wall mount forgetting to unplug it, I desoldered the tuner...

                                          Hi,
anyone able to provide the service manual for old plasma Panasonic TX-P42ST50E?
It turns off almost immediately (0~5 seconds after pressing the on/off button) and starts flashing the red diode 6 times.
I disconnected the left-hand side board (SC?, both the ribbon cable and the power cable to it) and also another ribbon going to bottom left board. Then the led signal is 8 flashes. According to service guide to another Panasonic plasma it would mean the left-hand side board is faulty. But I'm not sure it 100% applies to my model.
I checked that board for any obvious faults...

Panasonic Plasma TH-50PZ85U No screen No blinks on red power light

                                          Hello,

Stopped by this site trying to fix my parents Panasonic Plasma TV.

                                          Model number is TH-50PZ85U

Power comes on and the red power light stays on solid.

Did a few checks like hold the power button on for 60 seconds, hold the - Volume while holding the menu button, no luck, still@ blank grey screen as the screen lights up very vague.

I also hear a few clicks.

I also think my parents said there was a thunderstorm and the TV failed after that.

Section 6 in the service manual talks about power and no screen,...

                                          Hello all,
As the title states, I followed the troubleshooting guide located here: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/23...page=53#manual, which concluded the 'A' board needs to be replaced. Looking around the net and eBay, I see that there are repair services for the board (TNPH1043UE? Not sure if it is a 'UE' as the suffix grid does not appear marked). What additional troubleshooting can be performed to ensure 1) this board is the problem and 2) since there are repair services, what are they fixing on the board?) I expected 3.3V not to be available anywhere...
