akira pk8401 84" multi pdp

Have one of these sets going cheaply near me... Set powers up ok but won't display any input... So board replacement...

Problem... I have no idea where to source these parts... Any ideas?

Does it show the TV Menu options etc...?

As far as I know it shows nothing at all via any input... Not sure about menu... Will ask

OK so this is a plasma, 84", WOW!!!

Could be a multitude of problems though, display panel, X or Y sus, main board, just to name a few.

Have you tried to see if any spare boards are available anywhere? The only option could be to repair at component level as I shouldn't think there would be many parts readily available.

How competent are you at diagnosing/repairing yourself is really the biggest question (with/without assistance)?

I'm guessing that this 84" is made up by 4 x 42" display panels giving 84" overall.

Its a multi panel PDP (plasma).

Yes it's a 4 panel seamless display... It does show menu's according to the seller.

I have repaired at few boards at component level with a little help from here.

Well at least thats a good sign if something shows on all 4 screens, it does show on all 4 screens???

I would imagine that each of the 4 displays are standard panels so you could potentially get a return on the panels alone if all goes pear shaped.

There must be a central board that splits the display signals across the 4 displays and I would say this is the most likely board at fault.

Looks like they only buy WORKING tv's which is a good sign! And they have bought a lot!!! There name gives it away a little too!

Yes it shows on all four displays... So must be the input board at fault... It's on collection only via eBay very close to me... So hopefully it won't Attract to many bids and get it cheaply... It also comes with it's own flight case which must be worth a bit too. I was thinking the same and if it did go pear shaped I'm sure if gained cheaply enough I may be able to make a few quid breaking it for parts.

If the input board has died what are the chances of repairing these boards at component level?

Its possible its the Digital Video Processing Chip fried, hence why no inputs are working but hey could simply be a volt reg but not sure that these would cause no display from all inputs. Analog and digital signals are usually processed separately so if no inputs are working it must be common to both.

It will probably be four standard 42 inch 720p (or 480p) panels, with a control board to divide the signal into four monitors. Expect the panels to have burn in if they have been used to display static content.

Just been informed that actually only 3 screens light up and there is no menu showing!

Possibly the menu shows up in missing monitor. You'd likely be looking at repairing one of the 42" modules.

Maybe if one panel is designated the "master" it will cause the others to fail working.
