Power board on order, I'll check back in one it is installed.
Wonder what this thingy on the circuit board does??

Re: Samsung PN50A550S1F does not turn on, relay clicks.

New power board installed, did not connect Y and X mains yet, plugged in and power turns on and turns off normally....everything looks good..

So a question, when I started this diagnosis I found the bad cap on the Y main board and replaced it.....I will admit I had no decent de-soldering tool at the time and kind of mangled one of the circuit board holes trying to clean out the solder.

When I plugged in my "repaired" Y main the power tried to come on briefly and then reverted to the clicking and no power I had been dealing with from the start.

I have since removed that poorly installed cap (seriously bad cold solder joint), and with proper de-soldering tool cleaned up the hole and replaced it again. Is it possible for that one bad cap (or my botched solder job and potentially damaged board) to take out the power supply?

Should I just get another Y main board, or plug it in and see if everything works as designed? Would hate to blow out the new power supply.....

Normally unless the y board was seriously shorted or loaded down the power supply severly yed anything is possible. Us the power supply now outputting proper voltages without the sustain boards connected?
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

Yes, appears all voltages are correct. Only the X and Y mains are disconnected. I'm going to hook up the X board and then the Y....and cross my fingers. Probably the bad cap I initially replaced (poorly I confess) on the Y board had nothing to do with the sudden total picture loss and relay clicking.
Will let you all know later today.....and thanks again for the assistance and guidance I have received here so far.

Re: Samsung PN50A550S1F does not turn on, relay clicks.

Well, I think I may have damaged the Y Main board when replaced that bad cap....

Plugged everything in, crossed my fingers, turned on the TV....got the "chimes" screen sparkled briefly then came on with a clear picture....in the top half!!! The Bottom half of the screen is dark.

Now I know that could be the lower Y buffer....but this was not the symptom when the power board went out starting this adventure.

I have not disconnected any of the ribbons to the buffers, only R&R'd the Y Main, and those are hard connects to the upper and lower buffers.

The cap I replaced is circled in these pictures.

Re: Samsung PN50A550S1F does not turn on, relay clicks.

              News Flash !!!

I found I had left a connector between the upper and lower Y buffers disconnected after reinstalling the Y-Main. !!!!

I snapped that little bugger down and turned it back on....TA DA !!!

So a new power supply board and 1 failing cap later (guess I didn't wreck the board after all ) and my TV is back on line !!

By the way, the NEW Samsung Power Board from PartsStore.com was $116 including shipping and sales tax. 1 Capacitor $1.25.....so a pretty affordable fix in my mind.

Thanks to the great support, suggestion and tips from this forum I have successfully repaired my 22 inch computer monitor and my 50 inch plasma TV.

You guys on this forum helping out people like me are the BEST !!

Re: Samsung PN50A550S1F does not turn on, relay clicks.

                  Well...I'm BACK !!!!!.
After I installed the new power board last October (a YEAR ago !!) and had a functioning TV again, I parked this TV in my bonus room and didn't use it.
I had already bought a new one, so this was a spare for future home expansion. 2 days ago I moved it into the remodeled master bedroom and turned it on for the first time since last year. Everything was great.....until last night when it made a couple of pop sounds and went blank. Turned it off and back on and life was good for about 15 minutes and then blank screen, relay clicking....just like the original problem!!!

OK, I've gone back into it......here's where I am at now. Unplug Main from PS and power does not come on at all. Unplug any other board and no change.

Installed 270 ohm resistors on Power to Logic connector PS-ON to Gnd and Vs-on to 5.3v. Jumped test pins 3 and 4 on Logic board.

With Main unplugged I get no power. With Main plugged in I get 55 volts on Va and 204 volts on Vs. The screen does test colors starting White then Green then Red, but then the relay will click off and back on and the cycle starts over again.

By the way, I also replaced the Y-Main with a new one I had purchased just in case my poor solder job on the replacement cap last time was at fault.

So......what do you suggest? I don't think my new Power Supply is the culprit, unless it has been killed by some other fault. Is it the main ?

I read somewhere else about a cap at C102 on the underside of the Main being a common culprit, but I didn't see that cap on my Main Board??

Tom66...... What do you think?? I've ordered a couple of Ne sA7 caps to replace C102 on the main ( seems a popular fix? )....any other suggestions?

I didn't see the C102 Tantalum Cap on my main because it isn't labeled. !!!

Replaced that cap ($1.42 plus mail) and all is good with the world again. TV has been up and running perfectly for well over 10 hours now.
                      Thanks again.

Thank you in advance

Post #18 you mention only been able to upload one picture at a time with your iPad, I'm having the same problem and I agree, very frustrating. I also noticed in post #26 you were able to upload five pictures, did you find the secret, or did you use a computer?

Hope you got your TV working and thanks for your time.

I have the exact same problem, replaced some caps on the PS and purchased a main input board repair kit and replaced an ic and another part on the bottom of the board but no luck there. Reason for the kit on main board is that I isolated the relay clicking to only when I plug the main input board. Have you found a solution to this? Heeeeeelp.....

Re: Samsung PN50A550S1F does not turn on, relay clicks.

I have the same TV Set doing the relay clicking and the standby light in front of the TV going on and off as t clicks and not turning on. This happened after we lost power at the house and left the house. When I got back power was back and TV was down with this. I followed advise on some forums and did not find any bulging caps on PS but I replaced them just in case. When I unplug Main input Board the clicking stops and I installed two parts from the shopjimmy.com main input board repair kit (except for the IC on top/sound) but problem persist.
Attached are Vs, Va, and main input board plug voltages as reference. I think the PS Board is bad but want advise/opinions. Appreciated.
