OK... The main board was the problem all along, and the first replacement I got was also bad, leading to much consternation.

Installed a good main and all my original other boards and life is good.

Lesson learned, lighting strikes nearby will take out the main, and that's the first place to look.

Interestingly, once the TV was fixed I found the HDMI output from the cable box was also affected by the lightning strike. The composite video output worked, but had to get a replacement cable box to go...

Well....No responses here so I contacted the folks I got the boards from.

Consensus was they had sent me a bad main board.

They dropped another one in the mail to me, 2 day shipping, at no charge.

I'll put all the other original boards back in and start with the new (guaranteed used) main.
Hopefully I can send all the others back for a partial refund.

I just want to fix my plasma screen TV, since you can't buy them anymore.

  • Can anyone help ??

About to just send all the boards back for a refund (less restocking) and send it to recycling, but would rather fix the TV.

    Anyone??

  • Samsung PN51F5300AF does not turn on

We had a lightning strike very near the house and my 51" Samsung turned off. No other devices even blinked. Lights never flickered and cable modem stayed on.
No Standby light, nothing. This was the only device in the house affected.
    Fuse tested good.
I replaced the Power Supply board thinking that was it, but no change. No standby light, nothing.
Then I replaced Main board. Now the standby light comes on, it goes off when TV is turned on but nothing else happens.
The green LED on main will blink a few times then it goes off.
    Turned the TV off with...

I didn't see the C102 Tantalum Cap on my main because it isn't labeled. !!!

Replaced that cap ($1.42 plus mail) and all is good with the world again. TV has been up and running perfectly for well over 10 hours now.
    Thanks again.

The C102 was not labeled on my board either....fortunately, I divined the location from the photos posted. PN50A550S1F

The TV has now been working fine for many hours. Thanks again for the tip. ...

Add me to the list with a bad C102 on the main board. TV has now run about 20 hours, and on-off multiple times.
Thanks to the people on this forum for helping me sort a problem yet again!

Hey....replaced C102 on main board......so far so good. $1.42 plus mail cost.
I'll leave it on for a while and see if that was the final fix.
This forum is great if you take time to search and read....

  • Samsung PN50A550S1F does not turn on, relay clicks.

    Well...I'm BACK !!!!!.

After I installed the new power board last October (a YEAR ago !! See prior thread) and had a functioning TV again, I parked this TV in my bonus room and didn't use it.
I had already bought a new one, so this was a spare for future home expansion. 2 days ago I moved it into the remodeled master bedroom and turned it on for the first time since last year. Everything was great.....until last night when it made a couple of pop sounds and went blank. Turned it off and back on and life was good for about 15 minutes and then blank screen, relay clicking....just...

Tom66...... What do you think?? I've ordered a couple of Ne sA7 caps to replace C102 on the main ( seems a popular fix? )....any other suggestions?

  • Re: Samsung PN50A510 P3FXZA Plasma Cycling On/Off

Wondering if this is my culprit???? I replaced the power supply last year (it was definitely out) and TV worked for a bit then back to blank screen and relay clicking. This time though I have proper voltages and test colors with the Main plugged in and jumpers in place, but relay keeps cycling on-off. (I have an old post I just revisited and told my tale of woe on).

I'm ready to give it a try as soon as I source the little bugger.

Question though....I have plenty of old school circuit board experience...

  • Re: Samsung PN50A550S1F does not turn on, relay clicks.

    News Flash !!!

I found I had left a connector between the upper and lower Y buffers disconnected after reinstalling the Y-Main. !!!!

I snapped that little bugger down and turned it back on....TA DA !!!

So a new power supply board and 1 failing cap later (guess I didn't wreck the board after all ) and my TV is back on line !!

By the way, the NEW Samsung Power Board from PartsStore.com was $116 including shipping and sales tax. 1 Capacitor...

Well, I think I may have damaged the Y Main board when replaced that bad cap....

Plugged everything in, crossed my fingers, turned on the TV....got the "chimes" screen sparkled briefly then came on with a clear picture....in the top half!!! The Bottom half of the screen is dark.

Now I know that could be the lower Y buffer....but this was not the symptom when the power board went out starting this adventure.

I have not disconnected any of the ribbons to the buffers, only...

Yes, appears all voltages are correct. Only the X and Y mains are disconnected. I'm going to hook up the X board and then the Y....and cross my fingers. Probably the bad cap I initially replaced (poorly I confess) on the Y board had nothing to do with the sudden total picture loss and relay clicking.
Will let you all know later today.....and thanks again for the assistance and guidance I have received here so far.

  • Re: Samsung PN50A550S1F does not turn on, relay clicks.

New power board installed, did not connect Y and X mains yet, plugged in and power turns on and turns off normally....everything looks good..

So a question, when I started this diagnosis I found the bad cap on the Y main board and replaced it.....I will admit I had no decent de-soldering tool at the time and kind of mangled one of the circuit board holes trying to clean out the solder.

When I plugged in my "repaired" Y main the power tried to come on briefly and then reverted to the clicking...
