Pioneer PDP-R05G media receiver always starts in standby mode

    Hi,
I have a Pioneer Plasma and PDP-R06G Media receiver. When I power on Plasma TV with everything disconnected except the power cable, it starts flashing alternate red and green rectangle boxes on the screen which seems normal to me as no system cable is yet connected to it. But when the black system cable is connected to the media receiver ( media receiver not yet powered on), Plasma goes into standby mode with the red standby led constantly on and nothing is displayed on the screen. Now, if media receiver is powered on, it starts with standby led glowing and the fan at the back of the receiver stops after about 5- 7 sec. If I try to display the menu using button on the remote control, nothing is displayed on the screen. I tried to unsuccessfully factory reset the system. What can be the issue? Is it to do with the media receiver or the TV?

    Thanks.

Try testing the tv with a different video/audio source. If the TV works fine, it is the receiver that has an issue.

Yes. TV is working fine when different source is used. So, the issue is with the receiver. Now, what can go wrong with the receiver? How can I diagnose the problem? Is it something to do with power supply board?

      Thanks.

hi if it was me i would try doing a hard reset of the media box to put it back into default settings and try that for a few days you may have to download a user manual or look on line how to do this.

No, it still could be the TV. You need to test the same input on the TV that the receiver is hooked up to, not other inputs!

As I said in my earlier reply, I tried to hard reset it but did not succeed as remote control is not working when TV is connected to the receiver. Only the power button on the remote is functioning. If there is any other method to hard reset it, I would be more than happy to have a go at it.

I borrowed the same type of receiver from a friend of mine and worked fine using the same inputs as you directed to do. Can the issue be still with the TV?

            Thanks.

I doubt it. I am 95% sure the receiver is the issue.

Ok. So, what can go wrong with the receiver? The receiver powers on in standby mode (both the green and the red led glow simultaneously) and the cooling fan stops within 10 sec of starting the receiver. Can the issue be with the power supply PCB? Or is it something else?

                Thanks.

It can be the power supply, check ACSen what voltage it goes out

I think it's normal for the fan to come on for a few seconds, it did on my kenwood. Then it will come back on if the temp rises above a ceartain point. Are you using HDMI inputs/outputs?

But you can check voltage from relay after fan shut down, if it goes out power board self protect.

Actually on that model media receiver the fan should run as long as its plugged in. It runs if it is powered up or in standby.
Did I leave the soldering iron on?
