    Samsung LCD clicking and blinking

    Hi All,
I have two Samsung 40inch LCD TV's (LA40M81BDX and LA40R81BDX) and both of them just blinking and clicking. I saw two bulged capacitors on the power board (2 x 2200uF 10V), so I replaced them with the same value but still no luck. I also changed the rest of the capacitors except one (1uF 160V) as it was not available to me but still not turning on. Is there anything I can check other than capacitors? The TV is just clicking and blinking. It looks I'm gonna break my head onto this but I won't let it go like this. I have two TV's with the same problem. Please help me guys...

can we see the pictures of how the boards are connected at least? Is the standby voltage is steady?
    P/N of the board? BN-XXXXX?

The P/N of the board is BN-4400165A. The standby voltage is steady.

I saw that you had four caps on the secondary side marked in your pics. Did you change all these caps?: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SAMSUNG-TV-P...item1e7809e157

Re: Samsung LCD clicking and blinking

Here I'm talking about two TV's with same power boards.

TV1 Board1 - I first changed the 2 x 2200uF capacitors. It fixed the problem and the TV was working fine except I was unable to tune any digital free to air channels. I scanned many times but TV mode was showing only MONO.... So I decided to reset it by entering service mode by "mute,1,2,8 and power". Whenever I was pressing them it was not entering into serv mode but starts blinking and clicking again. After two three times more, it went into the continuous blinking and clicking mode. I changed the rest of the capacitors except the single bigger one and one small 1uF 160v.

In order to sort this up I bought another 40 inch similar faulty TV with similar fault, thinking that I will fix that up first, then I can try the power board on TV1 too.

TV2 Board2 - I changed the bulged 2x2200uF capacitors only. But it is still the same. When connected to power I can hear some chirping noise from some component but was unable to identify that. Could be a single transistor on the heat sink, location is top left as per pictures. It looks this board is having the same fault as of Board 1.

Now I'm unsure what to test and how to test. Should I replace all the capacitors of the second board... ?

            Hi there,

I'm having the same problem, but without the blinking. I have the model LNS4041DX and I opened it up and replaced what seemed like two bad capacitors with 25V 1000uF Nichicon capacitors. Nothing on them said ESR, so I have no idea if they're any good or not, but the TV did not turn on and the clicking continued. I'm in Canada and Samsung will not replace or help even though this model is under the class action lawsuit in the USA.

The power supply is: BN44-00134A and looks like:

Is there any suggestions that anyone has?!

            Thanks a lot
            Johnny

Hi Everyone, First of all I must thank you all for your time and help. Yesterday I was going through similar problems on this forum and found a thread which elaborates about resetting the EEPROM and step by step procedure to do it. And guess what I tried it on the first TV and it worked like a charm. Then I also tried it on the second TV and here we go, it was up and working. A day before yesterday I was breaking my head on two TV's both not working having similar symptoms. And today both started up. Can't tell what a sense of relief and satisfaction for me.

Hey Johnny... may be this might solve your problem. You can read the procedure as below:
-On this model the eeprom in question is IC 1803 (24C256) 8 pin smd and is located on the underside of the main board near the common interface. The clock and data pins are pins 5 and 6 and are identifiable by the 100 ohm smd resistors connected to each of them.
              - Fit a shorting link (on long wires) between the pins.
              - Reassemble the chassis.
              - Turn on the power. - Instead of the usual noticeable relay click, you get a faint click, the backlight stays off, nothing else happens.
              - Wait around 1-2 secs ( anything longer than this NEVER seemed to work ).
              - Bring the set out of standby.
              - Now access the service mode as follows- Using the remote control, switch to standby, press info, menu, mute and power. The set should start and display the service menu.
              - Using scroll keys select item 8 and enter by scrolling right. Select "tuner" and set to auto.
              - Revert to previous screen by pressing menu.
              - Now scroll to "reset" and enter by scrolling right. The set will revert to standby.
              - Power back on and tune in stations.

In case you want to read a bit more, then follow these.

                Hey Rahul,

Thanks so much for the information! I'm fuzzy on the second point:

                - Fit a shorting link (on long wires) between the pins.
Can you elaborate? My electronics knowledge doesn't go very far!

                Much appreciated

Re: Samsung LCD clicking and blinking

Hi Johnny, By shortening links I mean take a wire, solder one end of it on pin 5 and the other end on pin number 6 of IC 803(24C256). The reason we are using long wire is because we need to remove the short between 1-2sec, we cannot desolder a soldered short within that time and that too in a TV which is powered ON and all connected.
Just make sure the wire is long enough for u to cut when the board is reassembled. After when you solder the wire, Now switch ON the TV and wait for 2 seconds, not more than that but also not less than 1 sec. the timing is very important here. For first TV I was able to fix it in my first attempt but the second TV took at around 6-7 attempts.
After when I switched on and removed the short, the standby light stayed stable(not blinking). I used my remote to do the rest. Do let us know how it goes....
By the way what model of TV have u got... ?

whoa geez that's some serious stuff for me to do lol. I will give it a shot. Thanks a lot for the explanation! The model I have is LNS4041DX/XAA. It's a 40" Samsung LCD from 2006. We paid so much for it back then I'd hate to just let it go because of this seemingly small problem!

                      Hi Everyone,
My happiness ended pretty soon. When I switched the 1st TV back on today it was not responding, again that clicking and blinking began. Then I tried to check the 2nd TV and this one too went back where I started. Does that mean I need to change the EEPROM... on both of them. It was nice as I left the wire soldered on the board so I resetted it once again and the TV came back on but this is not a permanent solution. So just by replacing the EEPROM will fix this issue or I need to do something else?

Re: Samsung LCD clicking and blinking

Hi All... This is the final update of the problem. Fixed at last. I actually found the problem. The EEPROM was bricked. In these LA40 series SAMSUNG LCD TV's if the capacitors go bad then the EEPROMS will be bricked doesn't matter how much you reset it, it again goes back to the power cycle. I experienced it with 3 LA40 series models (2 x LA40R81BDX and LA40M81BDX)

So finally, I changed the EEPROM and since then no issues at all. The only problem arises is the picture quality is a bit dull because the service menu resets to the defaults. Luckily I had taken photos of all the service menu settings before changing the EEPROM so I adjusted them to make the picture look more brighter and clearer. But please note, do not fiddle much with this menu, it may make your picture really bad. Also one point to be noted here is that no two LCD displays are absolutely same. So there are different service menu setting for different screens, even if the model number/ver is same. There is no standard setting for them. Each has different level of settings. Samsung sets them before it is out for sale. If you are lucky you can get the exact values out of the service menu, if not possible just go to defaults and try your luck adjusting them.

Thanks again to Bud and other people who guided me and made me learn something very interesting and solve the issue. I hope it will help other too solve similar problems.
                        Cheers.

where were you able to get the EPROMS from?

I bought the EEPROM from Ebay. Here is the link, the seller has relisted it. Its pretty cheap. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....m=370920152727
