Re: Panasonic TC-50PU54 8 blinks picture flashes then dead
Easy guy, we are all on the same team here. I did plug it in with the sc50 jumped and still got 8 blinks. Sorry I was not clear about it.

Re: Panasonic TC-50PU54 8 blinks picture flashes then dead
Tom, I have a slight suspicion with my incomplete instructions, he may not have turned the TV on for the test.,The procedure is in the 2012 guide, hope he found it.
I hope I'm wrong and he did turn it on and it powered up normally.Leave a comment:

post 1, Initially 8 blinks, ss disconnected, no blinks Chart says, SS11 SS33 disconnect, The TV Stays on With Black Screen suggests no blinks
post 20, SC20 disconnected, 8 blinks charts says , SC20 disconnected, 8 Blinks
post 28 SU/SD tested normal as per manual What did you do here, mearurement results?
post 43 SU/SD isolation,SC50 test, OK (no blinks??) normal start, no picture,no blinks?Leave a comment:

Re: Panasonic TC-50PU54 8 blinks picture flashes then dead
What! You disconnected the buffers from the SC, removed the earth screws, shorted SC50 and started normally with no blinks?
That's totally unexpected for me anyway. Bad buffers should be 7 blinks.
Maybe we should resistance test the buffer boards and see if we can prove anything wrong with them.Leave a comment:

As in, still 8 blinks?Leave a comment:

I did the buffer isolation and jumped the sc50 pins. It tested good.Leave a comment:

Re: Panasonic TC-50PU54 8 blinks picture flashes then dead
If your concerned about the buffer boards you can take them out of the equation doing the buffer isolation and jumping the 2 pins on the SC50. I would not expect the SU/SD to give 8 blink though.
There's not a lot on those c boards, I have had one with a bad 20 pin octal buffer IC.
It had very high resistance pins 20(Vcc) - pin10(gnd) markings C541 and also VHCT541 which was the one I had bad and the larger profile of the 2.
Looks like these only have the C541.
I measured it board out but in cct comparing to another good C board pretty much all the same, but you could try installed but I'd disconnect any power leads, ribbons but leave the panel connectors alone. I think 1-2mohms, bad one was about 4 times that.
From what I can tell UT50 has same panel boards.Last edited by tw2005; 08-16-2013, 08:00 AM.Leave a comment:

I know. I appreciate all your time. Unless I order the C3 and SU/SD boards there is not much else I can do.Leave a comment:

Re: Panasonic TC-50PU54 8 blinks picture flashes then dead
Seems like there is no short there.
8 blink panel failure is only caused by:
- Shorted 3.3V/Vda on C board
- Open SS FFC
Neither of which you have determined to be bad.
I really doubt it is the panel but I don't know what else to suggest, it is very hard to check these things without having a scope.Leave a comment:

Re: Panasonic TC-50PU54 8 blinks picture flashes then dead
Thanks, I have 58 VDC when the tv starts up and it drops to 39 VDC when it goes into shutdown. That is on the C3 boardLeave a comment:

Do you see the little green SMD resistors? Vda can be tested on either end of those.Leave a comment:

Re: Panasonic TC-50PU54 8 blinks picture flashes then dead
I have 3.3 v on all three C boards when the Tv comes on and then they all go to 0v when it goes into shutdown and starts the 8 flashes. Where is the Vda?Leave a comment:

Re: Panasonic TC-50PU54 8 blinks picture flashes then dead
Check the +3.3V and Vda on it. Vda should be around 55V.Leave a comment:

Re: Panasonic TC-50PU54 8 blinks picture flashes then dead
According to the manual, the C3 board could also cause an 8 blink. It doesn't really say how to troubleshoot that board though.Leave a comment:

Re: Panasonic TC-50PU54 8 blinks picture flashes then dead
The pic flashes on for less than a second and then goes into 8 flash mode. I didn't think a surge could cause a panel to go bad either, but I'm out of answers. I am still open to suggestions though.Leave a comment:

Re: Panasonic TC-50PU54 8 blinks picture flashes then dead
I really doubt a power surge can kill a panel. Bad electrode structure, due to dirt or debris, or broken ffc maybe, but not a power surge.Leave a comment:

How long does the panel light up for? Is it a normal display or is it simply a quick flash and shutdown?Leave a comment:

Hello! yes I know there is already lots of information about this issue. I have a Panasonic TC-P55ST50 that originally displayed an 8-blink error code. Following the troubleshooting flowchart, I ended up replacing the SS board. However, even after replacing it, the issue persists. The TV turns on and stays on without displaying an image, and continuity is confirmed on all connectors. What am I missing here🤔?
Ok Im a mechanical engineer ...but I thought I was able to follow a rather simple flowchart for electric troubleshooting 😂.

by BiruslapioBought this TV used not working, panel flashed briefly on power up and it was blinking 8 times, a quick look on SS board revealed a common fault on the 3uF 250V capacitors, C201 to C205 (C1620X in the service manual), the solder joints were all cracked, C201 and C205 pins were darkened and some sparking had occurred on them, C201 was split open and clearly overheated in its last hours, replaced that one and resoldered the others, 8 blinks fixed.
Also the previous owner broke the antenna connector by taking the TV out of the wall mount forgetting to unplug it, I desoldered the tuner... -
by FZGHello!
I recently got an old VHS player from Panasonic and just for fun I want to try to repair this device. It is an AG-1000B portable VHS player from 1990 and it has a problem with picture quality in playback mode.
Picture in playback mode is very noisy and often loses sync but the still images are nearly perfect.
I want to know, is this something that could be solved by recapping or is the video head likely gone?
Also, what mechanism is this?
Any feedback is appreciated!...05-06-2024, 07:16 AM -
by Bazfletch3Hi all
While I have quite a decent background in electrical & electronic troubleshooting & repairs, this is my first time stripping down an LCD TV for repair.... I have inherited a 3yr old Panasonic LCD which has a picture, but it is quite dark (too dark to be watchable - but still quite easy to see; I didnt need a torch to see it).
I started by checking and trying to adjust all of the picture and backlighting levels, but that made little to no difference. I also did a factory reset.
From there I envisaged that the backlighting wasn't working, however... -

I’m working on this Samsung 60” LED and purchased a new main board a couple of days ago that did not fix the 5 blink issue. The original main board’s HDMI ports (all 4 of them) failed to work and no amount of reflow remedied that.
This 5 red light blink code on the front panel LED is followed (about 15-20 seconds afterward) by an automatic reboot, and results in 5 more red light blinks. Then the entire cycle repeats itself indefinitely.
No picture. No sound.
I tested all the voltages coming out of the power supply... - Loading...
