As it stated when tv is plugged into power you hear relay click once on the once off. But while this is happening you can't turn the tv on and you don't see any flashing power light. I'm think the main board but wanted to get some feedback.

Re: Toshiba 42hl196 no power no led flash
Most of these Toshiba 42HL196's have power supply issues. In particular, the ICs at Q820, Q860, and Q880 need to be changed. Other components in circuit with those ICs may also fail. Here are a couple repair kits:

Is there a way to test to find out which and if they are bad.Comment

Re: Toshiba 42hl196 no power no led flash
Here's the service manual. There are some voltage checks listed on page 10. Toshiba troubleshooting steps sometimes point you to the wrong PCB as the point of failure, so I wouldn't automatically accept the conclusion reached by going through the troubleshooting steps: http://www.toms-service-manuals.com/...&Search=Submit
ALL the ICs I listed should be changed if you decide to replace any of them. I don't know of specific tests for those ICs. Again, there could be other damage on the board.Last edited by capkid; 07-28-2013, 06:03 PM.Comment

Re: Toshiba 42hl196 no power no led flash
Ok cool. Thanks for the help. I'm gonna take the board off and check them out. I'll let ya know how it goes.Comment

Re: Toshiba 42hl196 no power no led flash
So I replaced two of the three power regulators. The two small 5 and 6 prong ones. I haven't replaced the big one yet. I powered it on and the back light turns on ad then turns off after a couple sec. And keeps doing that. I felt the parts I replaced and they get kinda hot. I forgot to put heat sink cream on one of them and the other I could probably add more. Hopefully it's just that. If y'all think I should look at something else let me know.Comment

Re: Toshiba 42hl196 no power no led flash
I would replace all three ICs. Also, I would check a few of the resistors and diodes in circuit with the ICs.Comment

Re: Toshiba 42hl196 no power no led flash
Ok I will. I think I need to replace another ic cause it has a burn mark on one of the solder points underneath. Also the main heat sink that the ic screw to. The 4 poles that go through the circuitboard have some burn marks on it. Do you think I will need to replace thoseComment

Re: Toshiba 42hl196 no power no led flash
So I got one of the it's I replaced to stop getting hot by putting more heat sink paste on it. I didn't put much on before. But ic q880 is still getting hot. There is a diode next to it but I think it's fine but I'm not sure how to test it. Also there are two rectifier diodes on the opposite side of the board next to q820 that both have burn marks on the solder joints K. I don't know if this would mess the other ic up or not.Comment

Re: Toshiba 42hl196 no power no led flash
Can you provide pics showing the burns?
Edit: I worked on a 52" Toshiba with similar IC issues (one was very difficult to source and expensive to ship), and I had bad diodes and resistors in circuit with one of the ICs; the IC blew, so I replaced the whole board for about $30. I know the board for the 42hl196 is very difficult to find.Last edited by capkid; 08-18-2013, 09:25 PM.Comment

This the picture of the rectifier diodes with the burn mark on the K pole.Comment

Re: Toshiba 42hl196 no power no led flash
And here is the burn marks on the other side. Ignore the big middle one if you can that was from soldering. The one pole didnt want to take the solderComment

I don't know why my iphone won't load the picture. I just posted pictures on another thread the other dayComment

Re: Toshiba 42hl196 no power no led flash
The pict above is some of the burn marks. Ignore the big one in the center I did that cause the one pin wouldn't take the solder.Comment

Re: Toshiba 42hl196 no power no led flash
The picture isn't the clearest, but those don't look like damaged components. It's probably flux residue.Comment

Re: Toshiba 42hl196 no power no led flash
I know its hard to get a good picture of it. It just looks like it was from the solder joint getting hot cause the same kinda burnt look is on the heat sink solder joints to the board. How can I test the diode that's next to one of the ic on a heat sink.Comment

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

by PantherDaveHi all!
I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. ๐
I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

by Mark01Hi guys,
This is my first post! ๐
I have no idea what Iโm doing, but Iโm learning by trial and error.
Iโm currently working on a Dell Optiplex AIO 7490โone of a bunch of AIOs that mysteriously failed to POST just a few days after the warranty expired. The original issue was that the PC worked fine until it was rebooted, after which it got stuck on a black screen (no backlight), with fans spinning at normal speed and a solid white power LED. Forcing it off by holding the power button would just cause it to switch on automatically and get stuck again on...07-04-2025, 12:54 PM -
by sam_sam_samI have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump
One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy... - Loading...
