    Vizio P50HDTV10A

Hi guys. I'm away from home at sisters and her friend brought over this plasma for me to look at. Posting from my phone so hopefully the pictures attached. I can pull the back off tomorrow if needed. Would like to troubleshoot here so it doesn't have to travel 300 miles back to my house. Anyway, all it shows when powered up are these vertical lines with a little snow around the edge of the screen.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Looks like my phone posted this sideways. It's actually a vertical line

Looks like I got it that time. Dead center of the screen.

Buffer board, quite often some FETs go bad (shorted) on them.

Thanks Tom. I'll pull the back off it later this evening and post a pic of the boards. Pretty sure I can figure out what's what. Based on the picture should I just go ahead and get the buffer board or could it be repaired? Keep in mind I'd have to take the board home and fix it without the TV on hand.

          Thanks again,

          Aaron

I did bring my volt meter and a few tools to check it out.

The buffer can most likely be repaired by replacing FET(s). I had a similar problem:

I'm going to have to call it a night but I see I've got a Y upper, Y lower, XC, XL, and XR buffer boards. They only run $10-$15 each so I just need to be sure I'm getting the right one.

Capkid, board looks more enticing given the price. I'll read what you sent me

If you're going to replace boards you'll need to replace the Y upper and/or Y lower, you can check each for shorts to see which are bad.

No obvious damage on these. If you get a chance, please let me know which spots to check for shorts.

I'd try to do some searching but all I've got to work with is my phone.

Test Q1, Q2, Q3 etc on one buffer, Q101, Q102 and Q103 on the other.
The X-buffers can't cause this fault.

Upper, all three show open. Lower, all three show shorted. Testing between the two connected legs. I guess it's probably just one shorted right? And they are wired in parallel?

Of course the two available on eBay are both uppers. One is listed as lower but the picture is an upper. Guess I could change the parts. Looks easy enough. I've got a nice Weller hot air rework station.

Found a lower for $40. Not sure how much the parts are to repair but again, I won't have the TV to test. I'd be stopping by again in 2 weeks to install it.

Any opinion Tom? I'd be pretty comfortable swapping those out. I have some buffers out of an older 42" Samsung plasma at the house. Maybe I could steal the FETs off those?

I've never successfully fixed these because I actively avoid them but most people seem to find replacing just those FETs sorts it and is less expensive than the whole buffer.

Thought that I would also add that it took me about 3 tries of connecting the buffer board ribbon cables to get the picture to look completely right. Had horizontal lines in a few areas. I basically guessed which ribbons corresponded to each area and re-seated them. I know this has been mentioned plenty of times previously but just figured I'd mention it. I knew from reading here what to do when I saw them.

I have two TCL A30 phones.

Old Phone: This phone worked fine for years, then stopped charging If you plugged a charger into it, the phone would make the charging sound, the phone would tell you it is charging, but the battery icon would not have the charging symbol in it and the battery would not charge.I tried new battery, same behavior.

New Phone: Works fine, bought as a donor board to try and repair Old Phone

My interest here is to repair Old Phone, using components parts off New Phone if needed. I am not interested in replacing Old Phone with New Phone....

I bought this phone new Sep.2021 as an unlock phone from a third-party seller. The phone worked fine until Jan 2022. I then had intermittent problems with the sound setting resetting itself. One of the settings, outdoor, would go to silent all by itself. When in silent mode it does not indicate a call has come in. I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.
