    Problem with Samsung LE40R86WD

hi guys got a samsung Tv from a recycling place, thinks it an older one as its very similar to my 37" samsung.. when i switched it on for the first time after getting it, it started flashing red LED which lets me know it was trying to come out of standby as my own samsung does that. then heard a click then it went of again, its not getting to the point when the backlights kick in yet. I popped the back off the tv and replaced a few failed caps (outlined in RED) tryed to start tv up and was doing the same thing, the click just before tv goes back into standby sounds like its coming from the little black box (outlined in YELLOW) can anybody relate to this or come across same problem. thanks

    Can't see your pic...

If you only replaced some of the caps, go back and replace them all using Panasonic FM/FR/FC or similar good caps like Rubycon/Nichicon/Chemicon.

After this you may need to do an EEPROM reset which involves soldering two wires to a device on the main board, but first all caps should be replaced.

All ones near the power connector going to the main board on the power supply. I'd probably leave the 450V alone as it's usually fine.

Would never buy an eBay repair kit. also you do not need new eeprom, only a simple jumper to fix it.

Those should be all that are needed.

OK, so now you need to remove the main board and look for an 8 pin IC with a part number beginning with "24". e.g. 24LC16. I think it should be 24C256. You're looking at the part number printed on the chip, not the label on the circuit board.

                                Re: Problem with Samsung LE40R86WD

OK, you need to solder two wires to each of the marked pins, pins 5 and 6.

Then install the main board in the set so the wires are exposed and easily accessible. Make sure they don't touch any part of the power supply though.

Tie the two wires together, they must be shorted.

Plug the TV in and turn it on. It should fail to turn on, or it may turn on with incorrect settings. After about 15 seconds, disconnect the jumpers.

Then turn the set off again. Should be in standby.

Using the remote key in Info Menu Mute Power. (If the set fails to turn on, repeat this step with the jumper connected but disconnect it once you are in the service menu.)

Select RESET in the service menu.

Turn the set off if it does not turn off automatically.

                                Turn it back on.

The TV should now be fixed.

Thanks Tom66. did exactly what you said. worked 2nd time around. noticed that when tvs backlight is between 3 and 7 in brightness it tends to do a kinda pulsing light. could this be a problem with backlights ? if it put it on 10 which is dullest or 1 which seems to be brightest it works fine but pulses otherwise.

I've had this issue before. I think it's a design error, I have never figured it out. Does the Movie or Cinema mode (or any other picture mode) make the screen go green tinted too?
