    BOXEE BOX media player

Device: 1st gen. Boxee box (the oddly shaped box)

Opened the box after a laud bang (the media player was still stable in use - no hangs or freezes).

As you can see in pic, even the capacitor housing took damage after being ejected violently

Please some help identifying the blown cap manufacturer (logo is a S inside a C) and a suitable replacement.

    Elite CS Cap 180uF 16v 12mOhm impedance/esr , 4800mA ripple.

Any good polymer capacitor will work for that. If you have some faulty motherboard or video card with a 220-270uF 16v capacitor on it, you could use that, I don't think the actual capacitance is so strict.

But do use low esr polymers, not electrolytics. Electrolytics at such low capacitance have too high esr.

just to be sure i would check the power supply to make sure it is within spec.
even with cheaper brands of polys this is rare.if ok replace all others like it.
doing torture tests of polys i noted most would take double the rated voltage without failing.at 3x they would go bang like yours.
i dont expect elite to have anywhere near that high of a margin though. mine were fujitsu, ncc, sanyo

        Re: BOXEE BOX media player

Just found and bought some yageo SX series 220uf 16V.
The datasheet doesn`t tell me too much but it says low esr.

But i will be on the look for a good polymer capacitor.

        Thanks for the help !

Theoretically, that Yageo is NOT good enough.

It has 410mA ripple, 330mOhm impedance/esr. It's about 10-20 times worst than the Elite cap (with 4800mA ripple, 12 mOhm impedance/esr).

And like kc8adu says, do check the power supply as well.

After a rather power surge the display is showing Android for a few seconds and then the display remains blank.I tried firmware recovery by using the reset switch on the board but to no avail.Am I
doing something wrong or is it perhaps that the firmware is corrupted beyond recovery?...

            Victrola multi-player - No audio
            by kokopelli75
            Hello!

My mother has a Victrola Navigator player that stopped functioning after a storm. I checked out what I could - all player functions appear to work, but there is no audio output in either the speakers or the headphone jack. I suspect (with my limited knowledge) that the amplifier part of the device is toast. Photo of the suspected board is attached. There's separate boards for front display, record player, etc. This board has a section for power regulation and a section for amp. There's a UTC7266 7+7W dual bridge amplifier IC and a CSC2314F sound processor IC on the board. Visually,...

LG BH6420P Home theather blue ray player repair
            by unimatrix93
Hello everyone, I'm trying to troubleshoot this LG hometheater player.

The customer forced her USB drive reversed into it's USB socket and since then the player won't work properly, only shows "Please wait" error forever on it's display.

Now I started diagnosing the USB socket and the mainboard where it's connected.

I found 20ohm resistance to ground on the 5V line of the USB.

5V is missing and I found the buck converter of the USB line, TPS65252 IC.
After measuring the pins I realized that both VIN and 3V3 is correctly present...

Panasonic AG-1000B VHS player with bad picture quality
            by FZG
            Hello!

I recently got an old VHS player from Panasonic and just for fun I want to try to repair this device. It is an AG-1000B portable VHS player from 1990 and it has a problem with picture quality in playback mode.

Picture in playback mode is very noisy and often loses sync but the still images are nearly perfect.

I want to know, is this something that could be solved by recapping or is the video head likely gone?

            Also, what mechanism is this?

            Any feedback is appreciated!...
