I was given a used 36" console RCA Colortrak 2000 by a family member. The problem I have is it just shuts off and you can't turn it back on. I have had a repair man to my house 3 times to try and fix it. He got it working the last time but that only lasted for 3 months. Our family only uses this TV maybe once a week. We can't bring it anywhere to have it serviced because it's so heavy and is located in the basement. I'd like to see if there are any solutions before we bring it upstairs in pieces and send it to the junkyard.

Do yourself a favor and give the TV to someone you do not like and forget about it.
but dead wrong.
the few problems with this chassis are well documented and cheap to fix.
i would say the ctc 140 and 169 are the best modern rca chassis made!

Re: RCA Colortrak 2000 troubles
I want to thank you all for responding to my problem. I had the TV repair man down last night and he stated it would cost about $200.00 to fix the TV. My husband and I chose not to fix the set. We already have $300.00 invested in the tv and with the fix it would run us up to $500.00 total invested. Our best bet would be to purchase a new tv.
The final question I have is...What type of tv should we purchase? We have two small children (3 & 5) and they will be using it to play their games as well as viewing tv programs. I do not want to spend $1000's of dollars on a tv. I am looking for a practical and reliable tv with about a 32" to 36" screen. I am looking to spend about $800.00. What are the best brands? Do I go LDC? HDTV? ect..
Your input would be greatly appreciated!

Definately go HDTV (since all of the broadcasts in the future will be HDTV compatible). Since your kids play games, avoid plasma TVs they are succeptable to burn in (Dark smudges on the screen where something is left displayed for too long such as a score box etc.) Some others may be able to give you better advice on the details maker etc.

in general anyone shopping for a bargain needs to be careful about resolution cos there are some seemingly amazing deals at the moment especially in plasma where the resolution is in fact quite poor.
i also dont know about the brands/models also. i would say to stick to the big jap/korean brands. there is so much variation in the various models though that you really have to go see yourself (especially a few shops cos the idiots might have set them up badly in one shop). In my personal opinion i would be careful to avoid also models with highly reflective fascia and i loathe reflective screens also.
make sure to figure out your room configuration and therefore viewing angles to see that the tv you choose will be good in that respect.

There is a lot of great info here, I've already spent hours digging up schematics.
Back OT, I have loved my RPTV since the day it arrived, but it's very large.

Great stuff on that site, Jim. I just wish they were faster at uploading requested schematics.
Not to hijack a thread or anything, but does anyone have schematics for Magnavox, specificaly 25X601-00AA and 25B800-7562 chassis?

Re: RCA Colortrak 2000 troubles
CTC169 was very NICEST chassis back then. It was also used in RCA tv projectors. I loved them if I had to repair them. The later another great ones is PTK195 and CTC197 (same basic chassis).
You can't make me say anything good about the CTC211 (that one with two fans), horrible!!
Cheers, Wizard
