    Samsung ps51d6900

Hi new to all this so please be gentle. I have a samsung ps51d6900 that I have owned for approx 16 months. The problem is that the screen has a distinct line horizontally right in the middle. it appears lighter on the top half than the bottom, this is only visible when It's showing a dark scene, normal bright scenes the picture is perfect. Also when It's switched on it displays white sparkles all over the screen for a few seconds, when I call up the menu the blue menu screen shows black sparkles. Any help would be grateful if this could be an easy fix.

Can you show a picture of this line? Top to bottom or left to right?

Hi Tom I tried to take a picture but it won't show up on the photo. The line runs across the screen horizontal exactly in the middle, It's like the screen is in two halves, the line I assume is only there because the bottom of the screen is black and the top is dark gray. This shows up when there is no picture on the screen or on dark scenes. when you you go close to the screen the bottom is black and the top shows gray speckles. I have a blu ray player that outputs 60hz and when I am watching a film on it it seems to be less noticable than the sky hd box which is 50hz.

Looking closely at the screen, does it appear that the bottom half only has every second line lit up?

Hi Tom thanks for taking the time to help. in answer to your question the bottom of the screen looks OK. when you go close to the screen the top half has what looks like tiny grey speckles which you can see very clearly, the bottom also has the grey speckles but not so pronounced. so what I think is happening is when I go back to my 12 ft viewing distance you can still see the grey speckles on the top half of the screen. if you view a dark scene in a film say a dark wall the top half is lighter than the bottom. I have read on various forums that one of the buffer boards could be going bad.

There is only one buffer board in this set, but it's possible part of it is going bad, so I'd suggest that as a first possible fault.

An update to the problem I am having, last night I was watching a film on netflix through my sony blu ray player, to see the line on the screen you have to look very hard, It's almost not there. When I press the info button on the tv it says 1920x1080@60hz unlike the sky hd box which is 1920x1080@50hz and the line on the screen is very noticeable. I have been reading about dithering on plasma screens, didn't know what it was. when I go up close to my screen I can see it, but on the top half of the screen It's worse. So when I go back to my 12ft seating position I can still see it on the top half of the screen but not the bottom. Don't know if this info can help to diagnose the problem

It's very hard to tell without seeing a picture or video, but I would be thinking buffer or control board fault.

Hi Tom thanks again for your input. You say this tv has one buffer board, I have been having a look on EBay for parts and have come across two items for my model, an xb buffer board and and a Yb buffer board, which one or both.

YB - Y buffer board - assuming as you say, line is from left to right.

                        Hello roncam29..

Did you manage to repair your TV by replacing the YB buffer Board ?

My TV has started with the same issue.. e.g. top half brighter on dark scenes.

It appears from left to right..

I have read on some other forums that people have replaced the whole panel to resolve this issue ? not sure if this is because they can't be bothered repairing or its just not repairable due to Plasma Dirty Screen Effect ? DSE ?

                          Re: Samsung ps51d6900

Purchase a YB board from eBay for around £20..

Once fitted to the TV the picture brightness from the top half was improved
considerably to the point where I don't notice it on dark scenes anymore.

Going up close to the TV you can still see the line very slightly, but as you don't watch TV this close, its not really an issue.

Replacing this YB Board was fairly easy if you take your time, and don't rush.

Hello, I have the same problem just mine is vertical line.
When power on the tv will stay on for like 10 second and turn off and on again.
I have done a Power Up Sequence Diagnose and you could see will work without the main, and still see the lines. Any help would be great.
                            Please see photos.
