I spoke to the shop I purchased the part from, and they have agreed to refund the money but suggested it is not worth fixing. They seems to think the screen itself has gone which is popping the board.
That is unlikely; I've not yet heard of that being an issue with these panels, unless they are cracked in some way.

I agree. You're most likely looking at having to replace the Y-main, X-main, and Y-buffer. As I've stated previously with regard to these Samsungs, I always change out the Y-buffer when the Y- main fails. The buffers are usually fairly cheap, and I haven't found testing results to be reliable.
That being said, the buffer boards on these models can be killed by a cracked screen and usually survive a bad Y-Main.
