Well I've replaced all the caps (Panasonic FM or FR), but PSU still buzzing and cycling. I guess I'll try looking for a problem further upstream. Not easy without a service manual or even a circuit diagram, but I'll have a go and post the results.

Finally got the set working again, after it sitting in a corner gathering dust. A schottky diode had blown, maybe at the same time as the zener. It was an SB360 and luckily I found a similar one in an old PSU - SB340. I think the 40V should be OK here, but I'll order a couple of SB360 next time I've got a bigger order to do.

Now to see if I can fix the remote control, although I think the spilt orange juice was probably terminal.

      Thanks for a great site,
      Mike

        Update on the remote:
Seems the orange juice must have eaten away a track _under_ the SMD controller chip, so one row of the keyboard matrix was out - soldered in a bit of very fine transformer wire to replace the track and bingo! Nice to have things working again...

Transformer buzzing can be caused by loose laminations in the transformer or the switching circuit is oscillating at the wrong frequency

What Zener Diodes on a Linear Power Supply
              by caspian
              Dear members,

I have a linear variable power supply with unknown brand name that I used for voltage injection.
Then it failed. I discovered that its transistors (Q1 and Q2) are shorted.
In addition, I discovered that its zener diodes are defective.
I can replace the burned transistors.
But I do not know the model of the zener diodes. the model number is not marked on the zener diodes.
Therefore, I cannot replace the zener diodes.
I do not want to test the zener diodes in a test circuit to discover their model or value.
              no schematics are available...

On M-Audio AV40 active studio speaker's two zener diodes get really hot.
              by Dvsr
Hi. I need help from wiser guys. I am amateur in electronics and can't figure this out by myself.
I bought faulty speakers, M-Audio AV40's. Other speaker has all the electronics in it and the other speaker is just passive one powered by the other speaker's amp. Original problem with the speakers was loud buzzing. I figured out that there is something wrong with the capacitors. I went ahead and replaced every electrolytic capacitor on the PCB. The caps are good quality and have the same values as the original ones.
After replacing the caps I started testing out the speaker. It seemed...

What zener diode might fix the sound on Maestro Mayhem gaming chair?
              by nev1001
Hi, I'm looking for a bit of help trying to fix the audio unit from a Maestro Mayhem 4.1 gaming chair please.

The chair has a few speakers and vibration motors. All was well, for a while, but now the sound is gone.

It may be significant that I discovered my son was powering it with a 19V laptop charger when it should run on 12V - it did fully work, for bit.

I think an issue could be a zener diode (or capacitor) which has shorted out.

The board's bluetooth input still works, the vibration motors are working, so is the line out socket but not the...

              Repair attempt Philips 55OLED804/12
              by Sharpa
              Hello,

I bought a SH Philips 55OLED804/12 TV with known defect in an attempt to repair it for personal use.

The symptoms when bought: Philips logo appears then tv turns off

              Things tried so far:

              1. Powering it on: Philips logo shows on the screen, sometimes with some minor artefacts then shuts down. Red status led flickers rapidly into two batches then repeats
              2. Put it in recovery mode by pressing joystick down then plugging it to mains: The tv shows the logo then shows the android animation along with some minor artefacts on the screen...

Philips 32PFL4901/F8 BA4GF0F0102 2 Not getting standby led
              by alro7779
              Hello, guys!

The same 32" Philips TV I was having video issues, but now I don't have standby led at all. Someone here shared with me the schematic of the power supply, and checking the voltages, I see right after the resistor R604 I'm getting 1.6 v which is too low for enabling the Gate of the Q601 mosfet (the diagram says 4.2). On the R614 resistor I'm getting 181 V in and 117 V out, then through R603 I'm getting the same 117 V in and 59.9 V out, finally getting the latter voltage in the R604 BUT getting just 1.6 V out, which is the voltage that goes on to the Gate of the Q601...
