Vizio VS42L -- Pop and no video

I have a 2008 vintage Vizio VS42L television. Last night while watching, it emitted a *pop* and the screen went dark. No sound, no video.

When I plug the unit in, I hear a relay click, and the logo LED comes on. When I press the "power" button, I hear another click, but no display/sound.

I pulled the power supply and the main board. No defects were apparent on the main board. On the power supply, I found this chip. Image attached.

    This doesn't look normal...

With everything installed and the tv on, I get the 5V standby, but none of the other voltages from the power supply are on. No 24V to the inverters, etc.

Guidance from the hive mind? Get a replacement power supply?

    Thanks!

If you could please post a photo of the entire power supply and it's part number, then maybe someone can ID that chip.

The power supply is part DPS-283BP. Here's a link to the part from ShopJimmy:

I'm suspecting that the chip itself was ok, and that something else caused too much juice to flow through there...

That IC is the SMPS IC for the 12v/24v power supply section, more likely that you also have two shorted out power MOSFET's which are driven by the IC. When the MOSFET shorted out, it dumped close to 400VDC into the Gate drive output pins of the IC, resistors/diode at the Gate drive of the MOSFET''s are likely to be damaged. You will be better off to get new power supply.

Ok, thanks! I'll go track one down. Looks like ShopJimmy is out of stock, unfortunately...

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
                by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                Assuming...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
                by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

MSI MS-16JF no video memory power supply
                by larSS
Hello! Has an msi ms-16JF motherboard with a diagnosis "doesn't work". There were a short-circuit on video memory lane. Removed GPU and video memory, changed TPS51916 and transistor on it's lane. Motherboard works OK, has the initialization and video card voltage. But has no video memory voltage. Should there be a video memory voltage without video chip or no? Has the S5 signal 3.3V on TPS51916

Vizio D32f-E1 Powers on, has backlight, won't boot/no logo, no menu or video
                by JaquesPratt
I have a Vizio D32f-E1 LCD TV that does NOT have a TCON board.

This TV recently went through some 'death throes' and now won't boot. The first problem that began to manifest was while watching tv, the screen would 'freeze', and the image would dim over a few seconds until it was very dark. HOWEVER, the audio of the show would continue as normal. I could power off the TV for 5-20 seconds, power back on, and the video would be normal. This would occur 1-3 times when the TV was first started, and would not happen again after the TV was 'warmed up'. Not ideal, but this glitch was manageable....
