Vertical black bar on Samsung PN50A450P1DXZA

I have a 3"-wide black vertical bar a few inches left of center with a think blue line in it on my Samsung 50" plasma TV. After doing a little research, I'm thinking it's the F-Buffer or possibly the Y-main. I've seen similar posts but not quite the same....and didn't want to highjack another's thread. Any advice, tips, anything would be greatly appreciated. This set is not quite 5 years old so I would like to save it if possible and not too expensive. I'm attaching a couple of pictures.

    Thanks,

Unfortunately the plasma panel (PDP) is dead on this. It is not repairable. It is a very common defect with Samsung PDPs.

Tom, thanks for the reply. I had a technician test the boards for me to verify, and you were absolutely right....the boards were fine, it was the PDP. And that is more expensive to replace than to just buy a new TV.

Again, just wanted to say thanks for the reply and diagnosis.

Well, at least all of the other boards are OK. The Y-main/Y-buffer combo is worth about $80. You may have $120 or so in parts for this TV to put towards a new one (or a faulty one as a project perhaps even another A450...)

I have the exact same TV and have close to the same thing, except my colored lines are rainbow, not blue.

Still probably a bad panel. Can't see your photo here though.

Hi all, I also unfortunately have come across this PDP failure: first one "segment" then three unlit. It initially starts with a top flicker, then then whole segment is affected and random colored lines appear distorting the image. Touching the affected IC (on the flat cable) reveals and very hot IC respect to others indicating something has shorted. My model was a 50" 50A456 model, about 7 years old. Defect came up suddenly and in a few hours the whole segment was dead and the next one was affected too.

Yep, sounds like the IC just cooks itself.

If you get bored then you can take off the heatsink to the address drivers, power up the TV and get an impressive light show as every driver chip slowly nukes itself .

(I mean, you might as well... the panel's already dead!!)
