SHARP 32" LCD TV POWER SUPPLY rdenca198wjqz

DEAD: HARP 32" LCD TV POWER SUPPLY Board Part No. rdenca198wjqz
Symptoms, Problems: TV DEAD, no power, no standby light, no nothing.
STORY: Client TV had power problems, probably new power supply. So, I ordered one.
Compared the 2 PS units. tested both. New one worked. Old one is dead. The new power supply fully functioned the TV. So, no problems elsewhere.
Decided to rebuild the OLD PS unit.
Tested all caps, trans, some resistors, transformers and found all good.
Finally tested all the little diodes. All good but one. It "BEEPED" and was shorted.
Reinstalled the rebuild. TV did not work., reinstalled NEW PS unit = DID NOT WORK! ??? Dah?
    THOT for the DAY:
When R&R'ing a pwer supply board - even though the ground holes where the screws go, "look," "seem to," even "seem to all tied together, the board needs ALL the screws replaced to funtion.
Problem: When R&R'ing the boards, to quicken the time, I used ONE screw, "THINKING" it would ground the whole PS unit.
Don't under estimate your stupidity - it can lead to waste of time and money.
WHAT WAS REPAIRED: One diode (D7907) beeped and was replaced. Fixed the whole TV power supply and now works fine.
PS. Before a new PS is ordered, chack that one diode first!

I've had screws bite me before. On one instance, a Panasonic plasma TV emitting a horrible buzzing noise (picture was otherwise fine.) Had to install all of the case screws to get it to stop; I guess the resonance of the case was changing without the screws.

Hi, I have one of these power supplies (rdenca198wjqz) and I have a component that has failed but I can't identify it. It is marked on the board as SG7002 and I think it is some sort of thermal fuse/resistor but can't tell for certain. Does anyone know what this is and where I can source a replacement ?

I have more information on this. It is referred to as a "Spark Gap" by Sharp and I believe that it is rated at 200v but now I have no idea where to get one.

        Anyone have any ideas ?

        Thanks

It is very, very rare for a spark gap to fail -- it's essentially a tube with two metal plates at each end.

Understood. Do you have any other clues as to what might fail on this PS ?

The only reason I can see them failing is by a big surge. Has the component blown up/exploded?

It was all fogged up compared to the others on the board. Do you know where I can get a new one ?

That may be normal -- can we see a picture of it?

I have same exact symptoms that "WierdVideos" described on the rdenca198wjqz power supply, and also suspect bad diode D7907. Where can I get one of these? I've check digikey, but get no results using their search field. Is there any special methodology when looking up parts at digikey? Thanks

You need to use the part number stamped on the diode itself. It should be a 1N5383, which is available from digikey.

Got the parts from Mouser and installed. Works fine! Thanks.

                          by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                          Assuming...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
                          by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
                          by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

Definitive technology SC 2000 subwoofer amp's power supply clicking and popping
                          by JimBanville
The sub developed a constant popping every couple seconds from woofer and power LED flickering with nothing but wall AC connected. Connecting an audio cable didn't change anything. It doesn't play but a second or two of audio in between the pops.
Opened it up and discovered the power supply is making a faint clicking or ticking sound.
I measured the amp's output to the woofer and it pulses up to 50mv DC to be driver. The pulses coincide with the power supply ticking/clicking.
I measured the power supply output going to the amp board and it too has this pulsing. Voltage cycles...

                          Russound CA4 Power Supply Repair
                          by CMCM
                          Hello Everybody,

Trying to repair a power supply from a Russound CA4 Multizone Controller (picture attached)

Russound no longer supports it but were kind enough to provide a schematic of the power supply (pdf attached).

The outputs marked 12v and 20v are all measuring only 1v.

The board is clicking, which I think means it is in something called hiccup mode when the flyback transformers switches because of an internal problem or something else on the board Overloading it.

The capacitors physically look clean (no bludgesor leaks) and...
