I got my hands on a 42 inch dell plasma today. The previous owner claimed it would power off on it's own. Since the glass was in good shape and a picture came on I gladly met the owners request for $20.
Once I got it home I found a 450v 33uf cap which looked odd. Once I pulled the board I realized the positive leg was broken on this cap and it was just barely making a connection. There was also about 1/4 inch of dust on everything inside the TV.
After a good cleaning I decided to go ahead and pull the cap and I discovered there was plenty of leg left that i could solder it back on. Unfortunately I already ordered a replacement, but I can always use it on another TV.
I've left the TV looping Metallica's Black Album for 4 hours now with no shutdowns!
I was surprised to find that Samsung decided to skip the speakers on this TV. However I was able to splice in a set from a Donor TV and hide them under the back cover.
To date, this is my best repair, only $20 and a little gas invested!
