  • Re: KDL55hx800 Sony white vertical bar on left side of screen

You're right Tom, checked bottom ribbon cables and one cable has about 5 pins corroded away. Man, I wonder if I could fix them with a trace repair pencil and just tape off the run to keep it from flowing elsewhere.

I guess all in all it's not a bad deal, a really nice TV for my kids room, for just some of my time and a little gas. I'm sure my kids will be able to deal with the white stripe.

  • KDL55hx800 Sony white vertical bar on left side of screen

So I picked up a 55 inch Sony Bravia 1080p 240hz 3d LED tv. The previous owner stated they tripped over the cord and it stopped working.

When I pulled it apart I saw that the power connector was bent and one pin pulled out. I straightened it out and it and reconnected it and it fired right up.

After it powered up I noticed a white bar and faded bar next to it. Screen shots attached....

  • Re: Dell W4200HD salvaged!

Thanks Tom66, I have used quite a few of your posts, faqs and guides to get a couple rolling including this one.

As for the burn-in, I made sure to have the screen saver going in full screen while I tested it.

I've had it hanging in my basement hobby room for a few days, streamed a couple of movies to it while I repaired other things and it has done GREAT! No issues what so ever.

I can't wait till I get my 50inch project plasma finished to replace it!...

  • Dell W4200HD salvaged!

I got my hands on a 42 inch dell plasma today. The previous owner claimed it would power off on it's own. Since the glass was in good shape and a picture came on I gladly met the owners request for $20.

Once I got it home I found a 450v 33uf cap which looked odd. Once I pulled the board I realized the positive leg was broken on this cap and it was just barely making a connection. There was also about 1/4 inch of dust on everything inside the TV.

After a good cleaning I decided to go ahead and pull the cap and I discovered there was plenty of leg left that i could...

  • Re: Cheap places to buy broken Lcd tvs?

I've been doing Craigslist. Some people are outrageous, ie $350 for a 50in sony that appears as if someone put a brick through the front of it. But I routinely get them for $10-$20 each with remotes and stands.

  • Re: LG 50PC3D-UD More problems....

That's what I was thinking. I tried to track it down and kept coming up with nothing. I decided to go back to my original Y-sus board, I replaced a couple of caps which looked like they were starting to swell a little. Then I hooked it up and I'm getting 120 VSC and -199.9 VY!

Now I think I'm back to buffer boards. I'm holding out hope that the Y-sus board only fried the FETs on them....

What should I look for that would have the -VY so far off like that? Whenever I adjust the corresponding pot it only swings 1-2v with +2.5v being the lowest I can get it....

I pulled both buffers and sure enough, they are both shorted AGAIN. This time I tested both buffers before installing them and they tested okay. What are the chances that my problems are being caused by the Y-Sus board?

I tested my VSC with no buffers hooked up and I get -169v and my -VY is showing +2.5v. It should be showing +120v on VSC and -200 on -VY.

From my power supply going to the y-sus my VA is 60v and VS 196v just as label on display calls for....

I don't have the remote, I did short out the OSD pin 1 and 2 and the individual colors, bars and lines all show properly.

Tom, I checked the buffer boards and showed no faults. I'm going to connect one at a time and see what I get....

  • LG 50PC3D-UD More problems....

I decided to start a new thread since this appears to be another problem.

So far I have replaced bad Y-buffers, bad y-sus board, bad power supply.

I now run into a problem shown on the picture. I've read that it could be anything from a bad control board to bad y-sus.

I took some volt readings this morning and everything looks okay except the vsc which reads as low as 5v but should be 169v....

New buffer added. Now I have the following problem..... Does it ever end?? lol....

When the Input selection comes up on the screen it also gives a white box from top to bottom.

Bad Control Board? If so how do I go about testing this?...

Got it from an ebay seller who has sold a lot of parts with good reviews. I don't know if putting the name here breaks the TOS, so I'll avoid that unless I'm certain it does not. My Sustain board came from Coppel, but they were out of buffer boards or I would have ordered it at the same time from them.

You are dead on, shows continuity of .024! 5 of the 6 ICs are showing shorts to ground as well. What are the chances that those would blow my replaced Y-Sus board?

Sorry these aren't the best images, if needs be I can go grab a light to shine on them while I take the picture.

1st picture is the top buffer. Actually after looking at the uploaded pictures, those are horrid. Getting the good camera instead of my phone.

Edit: 2nd picture is top, 3rd bottom.

Edit2: I've run diode mode from ground and get closed connection on 4 of the screen connectors one one pin each. P4, P5, P6, and P7. From what I read that means those 4 ICs are shot, correct?...

I'm sorry, same as top 3 pictures. It acts the same as if both buffers are connected.

  • Re: LG 50PC3D-UD Screen problems

with the top hanging loosely and disconnected from the metal tabs on the y-sus board it does the original symptoms. Does this mean the problem lay with the top buffer board?

Thanks for the response. These buffer boards just came in the mail and I've only tried them with the replacement Y-sus and replacement power supply.

I am thinking that your assessment on the replacement parts being bad may be accurate. I used to have a .pdf on my laptop which showed the different picture issues and what the issue was, but for the life of me I just can't find it on my computer.

  • LG 50PC3D-UD Screen problems

So I have a 50 inch LG which I have been trying to get going. I have replaced a bad power supply, a bad Y sus and Y buffers.

Yet I am still getting problems which I thought were a bad Y Sustain board or buffers.

    Pictures attached, please help!...
