    50" Plasma Samsung TV (Model code: PN50C540G3FXZC), sound without picture!

    Really a good site, while searching solutions on my Samsung plasma TV problem, google directed me here.:-)

    I have a 50" Samsung plasma TV (model code: PN50C540G3FXZC) about 3 years old, some thinner black lines came out 3 inches from the bottom when it was just over 2 years old (of course, out of warranty for about one month), I just left them there as we could still watch programs and last week, it went black with high volume buzzing sound (no signal/gleaming on screen at night with lights off) when turning it on.

    Today, after removing the back cover, I noticed the small green LED flashing about 1 time per sec when the TV is on (the remote control and power button on TV work, but other buttons like menu, tools, media, channel, volume not working). I tried to check the Y-Sustain board with the Y-buffer board after uninstalling it and didn't find any blown capacitors (probably can't tell visually). Are there any fuses on both boards as I couldn't find them. Can you please help?

    Also after re-installing the Y-Sustain and buffer boards, the TV can be turned on but without the high-volume buzzing noise and the LED on the back wasn't flashing any more.

    Any clues on the problem? (Sorry that I'm new to it, the description might not be accurate, please let me know if you need more details/pics).

    Were the lines coming bottom to top or left to right?
    In a dark room, can you see any glow from the screen?

      thanks for the quick response tom66.

      they coming from left to right, above 3 or 4 inches above the bottom of the screen.

      in a dark room, no glow from the screen now.

        The Y-buffer and possibly Y-main are likely at fault.
        Now, time to take some pictures and show us the layout, so we can help locate replacement parts and highlight test points.

              OK, the Y-buffer board is the green long thin board in this image.

              It needs to be removed for testing. Follow this video. Focus around the connectors which are approximately for the same area as where the fault occurred.

                  OK, in which case I cannot guarantee the buffer board to bad, but due to your symptoms, I think it is probably the fault, 90% confidence.

                    Thanks for the response tom66.

                    Before finding a replacement on the Y-buffer board, can you please let me know if the voltages from the power supply board I tested are correct? As I noticed that the VS and VA ones don't match the numbers on the label of the panel and among the 3 heatsinks, the right two seem not connected/grounded to the panel or chassis properly as it gets a voltage of around 53V.

                      Good point. Maybe you have bad Y-main too. Try unplugging the Y-main and re-testing the voltages. If the voltages come back, plug in the Y-main and unplug the buffer board from it. Wait 3 minutes after unplugging the set before changing anything.

                        No luck to get the voltages back. Without Y-main, the VS is 0 V and VA still 0.1 V.

                        Here are two attachments with the voltages I got.

                        Top right corner of the power supply board: 100_6091.PNG
                        Bottom right corner of the power supply board: 100_6092.PNG

                        Please let me know if this helps narrow down the problem on it. Sorry that I put a wrong voltages in one of the first batch of pictures (DSCF8648.JPG)

                            Were the connectors from the PSU to the control board and main board solely disconnected for the purpose of taking a pic and annotating it?

                              yes, that's correct.
                              First I measured the voltages with all connectors connected to all other parts/boards when the PSU was powered on and then disconnect it, took pictures and annotated them.

                              Any clues?

                                    Something's not right. Only ~10V on Vs? It should be around 200V, exact value on plasma panel. Did you have the X-main removed too?

                                      Yes, I had the X-main removed and it is 9.7 V. So the PSU has problem?

                                        Possibly the control board is shutting it down. Unplug all power, set your meter up to measure Vs then plug in power. Does it spike to around 200V after a few seconds?
