    LE32A558 vertical bars and line

    Hello

I own a Samsung LE32A558 TV for a bit more than 3 years (warranty expired after 2 years) and since then I've been getting these strange vertical lines on the left side of the TV, their size is around the difference of a 16:9 and 4:3 image on the left side.

Most of the time that vertical rectangle turns into different colors, like based on the background of the rest of image.
Here you can see 2 photos: http://www.mediafire.com/?9glba6k50t4iw
One of them is the thin green vertical line
The other one are the vertical bars, they are white and black now but after a few minutes they begin to switch colors
They got used to get removed after 20 mins of use, but now a green vertical thin line shows in the screen, it's almost not noticeable tho
A few days later my TV displayed 3 more lines next to the green one. 2 are black and one is red. Apparently now I only get the green one

TV has been updated to the latest firmware and reverted to default state

According to the documentation I read in this forum and several other sites I really doubt the inverter or the power supply are the problem.
So I suspect of the T-CON, main board and the LCD panel (this one being the most expensive at all)
I found a service manual for this model but it doesn't seem to contain much info about my problem

I can post a video of the failure as well

I haven't got any knowledge in LCD TVs except the one I learned on the net, videos and this forum

    Thank you.

    Hello

Any help you can provide me?
I forgot to put brand name in the title but it doesn't let me to edit it now.

It is probably a defective panel. There's the chance it is a tab bond problem; see here for a potential fix.

Note the symptoms of tab bonds vary greatly, but the fix is the same.

        That's interesting.
Is that connected from the T-CON card to the panel?
However is a bit risky to test it for me while the TV is on (shock risk) These TVs get high voltages as far as I know

Do you suggest me to attempt this anyway or take a look at other things as well? What else could be failing looking at the symptoms?

        Thanks!

Re: LE32A558 vertical bars and line

The voltage on the LCD panel does not exceed 30V, which is non-hazardous. As long as you do not touch the PSU or backlight connectors there should not be any hazard.

Re: LE32A558 vertical bars and line

            Hello

Sorry to revive this topic. I took a lot at my TV for the problem, but couldn't access the T-CON tab, because it's under a metal shield with 4 scres, I tried to remove them but it won't come out.

I was able to check the LCD ribbon tabs. Apparently those are the failure of the TV. I didn't check them with the TV turned on because I am not an expert and I am quite afraid of getting electrocuted if I accidentally touch the power supply or the inverter board.

I checked the video one year ago and that seems like a cool solution. But I wonder, isn't there a better method like maybe some kind of good sticky tape? Wouldn't it work as well?

            Thanks!

Re: LE32A558 vertical bars and line

If you are only touching those tabs and nothing on the power supply, you will not get electrocuted. No worries there. The ribbons need to have pressure applied on them to diagnose, and for a permanent fix. You can try a reliable form of applying pressure, the most commonly seen is the "shim" of thermal/foam material which presses down. But you can use almost anything, really.

Oh, I saw the one using silicone tubes.
Any recommended brand, model of doubled sided sticky tape?

                        Haha, ok, thanks
I asked because I have tried to use duck tape on electronics and it always became loose so maybe I didn't pick the right ones or not good brands..

                          A few more questions.
According to the video, the latex tube method seems to work best. Foam or thermal don't work that well?
In case there were more than one or two tabs failing. Is it possible to apply this method to all of them in case it's needed? I assume that over time, some other tabs will fail as well

And another question about security. Power supplies or inverter can still hold a charge even if the TV is unplugged. How can I discharge it? Shorting the power plug cable pins when it's unplugged from the wall?

                          Thank you!!

You will face no shock hazard from the PSU or inverter if you do not touch them.

Also, the set HAS TO BE POWERED while doing the test to see if it is a tab bonds fault.

Otherwise, you cannot find where the fault is. So discharging or unplugging the set will not work.

Oh, sorry, maybe I didn't explain myself properly.
I meant when dissasembling the TV or doing repair

                              Thanks!

                                Hello

I know this is old, but I took so long on dissasembling it due to an illness that has been following me for years. I am better now, althought not well enough. So I apologize to everyone trying to help me

I dissasembled it again yesterday (it's still open) and correct, the leftmost ribbon tab is defective. But there's another problem, the black vertical line won't ever dissapear.

I uploaded a video where you can see the line and me tuching the tabs.

I also tried to disconnect both sides of the T-Con board, and the line seems to be always there.

                                Panel model is: t315hw01

                                Thank you!
