    Vizio P42HDTV10A With LG 6871QYH053B Y-SUS

I've got a Vizio Plasma with LG internals on my bench right now. It has the PDP42X3 plasma panel in it. I think I have narrowed the problem down to the Y-SUS board. There is one fuse blown on the Y-SUS and the pins on the IC are shorted to ground. My IC is not exactly the same which is why I say I think the Y-SUS is bad.

    http://blog.coppelltvrepair.com/2011...s-ipm-for.html

I have an 42" AKAI something or other with the same panel and the same 6871QYH053B Y-SUS board in the basement that has the input menu flashing on and off repeatedly. I know that the Y-SUS in the AKAI is good and the pins don't show to be shorted using the above test.

Here's my dilemma. If the panel in the Vizio is bad, would it have caused the bad Y-SUS to fry? Will it fry my known good Y-SUS? I only paid $40 for the AKAI and really had no plans for it, but I don't want to fry good boards for no reason. Also, should I swap out the Y-SUS and buffer or just the Y-SUS?

    Care to offer any input?

Both your Y-sus are bad, I expect. Flashing screen is bad ERC on Y-sus. Not aware of any LG panel failures that kill the Y-sus (really only certain Panasonic TVs have the issue and they only kill the buffers) but the bad Y-sus can kill the buffer boards too.

It's not a flashing screen. The input menu flashes on and off repeatedly. The rest of the screen is solid blue (except for a few red lines).

So if the Y-SUS is bad in the AKAI as well, it should transfer the fault to the Vizio unit, correct? I guess I will try it and report back. Thanks Tom.

Oh OK. That looks fine then for a Y-sus. Transfer the buffers too. It may be difficult but it will stop the Y-sus from frying.

I probably should have looked for your response before I swapped the new Y-SUS in without the buffers. I already had both Y-SUS's out on the bench. I swapped the new one in. The set works. Va and Vs are a little low though. I'll have to find the test points for Vset, Vscan, and Ve.

I just spoke with the owner. I told him that if it were me, I wouldn't put a dime into a 7 year old TV. I could get it working today and tomorrow something else might go out on it. I quoted him a fair price, $150, for the Y-SUS and the buffer board installed and out the door. He asked how much for just the Y-SUS installed. I told him $100. He says he just wants the Y-SUS. I told him again that if it were my TV, I wouldn't do it. I also told him that there would be no warranty. He told me he had to think about it and that he'd call me back when he got off work.

At this point, I may just tell him, "Here's the part you need, here's how to put it in. Order it yourself and save some money."

This is my last "for hire" gig.

I have since stopped offering to do repairs for others since the LG 50" 50PC1D had a bad Y-sus, buffers and to top it off, bad caps on the PSU. Not worth it...

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
              by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

              Assuming...

              by mrtek
              Hi.

picked up another TV. This time is a Vizio M65-C1. TV does not turn on. I had repaired another 60 inch vizio , Bad main board.
When power button is pressed, the Power led indicator on the bottom right, turns for a few seconds and then it fades away. No backlight or Vizio logo on screen. Removed back cover and repeated test.
This is the TV This TV is a little different from the Samsung I have worked on. Power supply is on the Left side, Main Bd is on the right side, T-CON , not in the picture is on the bottom. I am assuming that the boards in the middle are the LED...

              Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

              Where is the short?

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...

Vizio SmartCast TV software bug that looks like hardware
              by howardc64
Bug looks like hardware so thought I posted it here. Exact same behavior on 2 different model 4K Vizio TVs running their SmartCast smarttv software. After launching youtube app, press vizio button on remote to return to the smarttv menu, once in awhile, a column of bad pixels will show for few seconds on the left hand side.

It seems the vizio software is reinitializing hardware when returning to the smarttv menu. In general, SmartCast software isn't very good. Also will randomly (relatively infrequent) get no network connection when on wifi and require reboot....
