samsung ps-50c96hd sound but no picture

hi there newbie to your forum, looks like a great site.
my tv gave up the picture today sound is ok though. i opened her up and found y lower buffer had one chip burned.do i simply order a new buffer and fit or whats best? all fuses check out on all panels , slight swelling on 2 power board caps i will change these as well. any info from you guys will be gratefully recieved, thanks in advance.

On this set when the buffer burns the Y-main is almost always faulty.

You need to replace all burned buffer ICs (usually only one) plus some parts on the Y-main.

You can also replace the whole buffer board but they are not cheap. Then again replacing the ICs is very difficult.

thanks for the quick reply , most interesting . i will have to replace the low buffer board as its board is burned a bit.so you reckon i could change the low buffer ?and if that dont work i would need to find a manual and check the y main voltages. thanks

Can we see a picture of the damage? With a small amount of skill you can change the individual ICs. The buffer boards are rare, and are about £70 each and the ICs are available from around £4 from several suppliers.

I plugged In the new buffer board and switched it on while monitoring the rest of boards and the main board for buffer let out a puff of smoke so there's trouble there also I switched it off rapid like . What you think will be needin replaced on main board.?

Several FETs. You will also need to replace or repair the buffer again.

The buffer looks ok. But it will. Be toast will it ? Will the 2 buffers not be toast?
